Episode 124: Ryan Holley

Friday Nov 30, 2012

Friday Nov 30, 2012

today's show is brought to you by, "austin christmas". a new christmas album from same sky productions. available at http://www.same-sky.com/
hello dears! i hope this podcast finds you well and ready to get down! i am, once again, getting ready to go out of town to play some shows with skyrocket. they're both private parties this weekend which should be cool. i am sincerely concerned about the robe & slipper situation at the sheraton suites. i'll let you know how it turns out.
i got an email from someone correcting a guest from last week. on this episode, i read that email. we could have a "twilight" situation (without the vampires and werewolves, because they don't really exist.) on our hands here at the "how did i get here?" studios... or maybe i'm just stirring the pot because no one likes my "baby fights" idea. honestly, i don't even know.
my guest for episode 124 is my old friend and former bandmate, the fabulous, ryan holley! i met ryan long time ago when our bands did some shows together in san marcos. over time, ryan and i became friends and eventually he joined my band, johnny goudie & the little champions. anyway, ryan is not just a guitarist and sideman, he has also fronted many bands including, blondes make better victims, the wartime social. his band, a+ machines with blue october's matt novesky recorded and toured and garnered a strong fanbase. now he's dividing his time working on a new project with matt novesky and paco estrada as well as playing in chico california's dr. luna and other sideman work. ryan stayed with me a month ago and we sat down and recorded this conversation. i hope you enjoy it. i did.

Tuesday Nov 27, 2012

today's show is brought to you by, "austin christmas". a new christmas album from same sky productions. available at http://www.same-sky.com/
hello everyone! i hope you had a great thanksgiving. i did. i went to houston with my cousin megan and we had thanksgiving with our family. it was awesome! friday night i played at the house of blues in houston with skyrocket. and saturday here in austin. all in all, it was a great holiday. i even went to the mall on saturday and got in and out without a problem or much difficulty. so, whatever madness happens on "black friday" does not happen on the saturday after.
my guest for episode 123 is the extraordinarily talented musician/singer/songwriter/producer, gurf morlix. you might know gurf from his work with such luminaries as, lucinda williams, warren zevon, ian mclagan (episode 105), patty griffin, michael penn and many, many more. he's worked as sideman, producer, and singer/songwriter putting out his own albums and touring behind them solo. i have always been a fan of gurf and his work. so i was really excited to go out to his home studio to sit down and talk to him. it was even better than i thought. gurf is a gracious and humble artist as well as a gentle and thoughtful man. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did.

after my same sky visit, i sit down with someone i've always wanted to chat with, guitarist/composer/songwriter and all-araound cool guy, adam sultan. i've seen adam play for over 20 years now and i've never had a chance to talk to him. well, the former poi dog pondering, hollowbody (and many, many more) guitarist came over and we sat down and got to know each other. he's a great guy and i had a really good time talking to him. have fun listening and have a happy thanksgiving!

Episode 119: Matt Sadler

Tuesday Nov 13, 2012

Tuesday Nov 13, 2012

hello people! it's finally cold and i love it! i bought a sweater the other day when i was playing in a ballroom at the galleria in houston. i saw the sweater in the window, fell in love, asked for a small, got a lot of sweet comments from the sales girl and bought it. i did not look at the price until she handed me the ticket to sign.... WOAH! it was expensive. so, i bought it anyway. then i watched kenny loggins perform and it was fabulous. i talk about it on the show.
my guest for episode 119 is comedian, fellow podcaster and my friend, matt sadler! outside of being an insanely funny stand-up comic, matt is the co-host of "the charlie hodge show"(on which i am a regular guest) and co-host of "totally hungover" with blynch and chuy zarate. i have gotten to know matt from my appearances on the charlie hodge show and i think he's really funny. so, i asked him to stop by and chat with me about being a touring comic, how he got into comedy and much, much more. i hope you enjoy our conversation.i did.
