Hello friends! Welcome to another SXSW 2018 double-header. First up, honoring that old school Motown sound and working it into something of their very own, The Teskey Brothers are an unexpected revelation from Melbourne, Australia! Drummer Liam Gough joins me for a great conversation about this band's amazing independent rise. Their latest album, the soulful, Half Mile Harvest has made it to #1 on the Australian indie album chart, they've been selling out big venues all over Australia and after SXSW they were heading out to Los Angeles to open for Los Lobos! Hello friends! Drummer/percussionist extraordinaire, John Spiece is my guest for episode 666! You might know John from Grupo Fantasma, Brownout, Brown Sabbath, Money Chicha, Golden Dawn Arkestra, Kalu James & The Electric Joint and many, many more. Grupo Fantasma just finished recording new music at Sonic Ranch out in Tornillo, TX, Brownout is playing some dates and Kalu James is about to head out on the road, so John has a busy February. John and i have a great conversation about heading to Denton to learn percussion, touring with Hairy Apes BMX, the magical music scene of North Texas in the early 90's, doing the Brown Sabbath thing for Ozzy himself and much, much more! Hello everyone! Drum tech, drummer, educator and first-class motivator, Kenny Sharretts is my guest for episode 663! As a drum tech, Kenny's worked with some of the very best including, Stevie Wonder, Rihanna, Janet Jackson, Train, Puff Daddy and many, many more. As drummer, you might have seen him with Monte Montgomery, Kevin Fowler, Joe King Carrasco, Rusty Wier or his own bands, Super Fleek, So Called Underground Music, Custard Pie and many, many more. You might also know him from his many amazing Youtube videos about drum tuning. He actually has a drum tuning clinic coming up on Monday, February 5th Tommy's Drum Shop presents: Austin Drummers Co-Op at One-2-One Bar from 7-8 pm. I was calling it "ATX Drumming and Social Club" but it's actually called "Austin Drummers Co-Op". Hello friends! Congratulations to the world champion Houston Astros and the city of Houston. That was a much needed win. My dear old friend and the drummer behind artists like Mineral, Bob Mould, David Rice, The Damnwells and many, many more, Matt Hammon is my guest for episode 640! Matt has just released his first solo album, Siver Suitcase which he wrote, recorded and played all of the instruments himself in his home studio. Silver Suitcase is a gorgeous record and Matt's songs tell the his incredible story. Matt and I have a great conversation in my hotel room in Houston about being everyone's drummer in the 90's and early 2000's, how his life was altered by 9/11, the struggle and ultimate triumph of making Silver Suitcase, surviving cancer and changing his life, we get evacuated from my hotel room at the beginning of the conversation and much, much more!
