Hello friends! It's been a long week for the Austin music community. I got to see some good music on Wednesday night. That felt good. I saw James Junius at The One-2-One Bar, Donut Musik at The Townsend and Cotton Mather at 3Ten ACL Live. Pretty badass for a Wednesday. You shoudl see the shit I missed. SKYROCKET! is playing tonight at Hanover's in Pflugerville. Come out and party with us if you live in the North Austin area. I hope you all have a fun and safe Memorial Day weeekend.
Chris Masterson and Eleanor Whitmore, also known as The Mastersons ruturn to the show for episode 595! Their gorgeous new album, Transient Lullaby is out now. They're about to head out on tour for the rest of the year opening for and playing with legendary songwriter, Steve Earle. They played some release shows this last weekend but sadly lost their co-producer for this album, and our mutual friend, George Reiff, on Sunday. We got together Monday morning as scheduled after some deliberation about wether we should do it or not. Well, we decided to sit down and talk about this Transient Lullaby, their touring experience, our friend, George, touring with and opening for Steve Earle, writing this album all over the U.S. and Europe, the current political climate and much, much more. I love Chris and Eleanor as artists and as people. I hope you enjoy our conversation. I sure did. Let's get down!

Friday Sep 30, 2016

Hey gang! I hope you've all had a great week. Things are going well here. Heading out to Houston to spend some time with my grandmother. She's 94 now. We're very, very close, so i'm trying to spend as much time with her as i can. SKYROCKET! will be playing in Houston tonight at The Continental Club. People were saying it's sold out. As of last night, it was not, so if you live in Houston, come out tonight Friday 9/30 and party with us! I'll be going to ACL Festival this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes on Tuesday's show.
My guest for episode 529 is the amazing Cody Braun from Reckless Kelly! For 20 years Reckless Kelly has been making amazing americana music and touring the country relentlessly. They've just released their 11th album, the stunning, Sunset Motel. The album is a gorgeous example of a band taking a sound and running with it and 20 years down the road, there's amazing growth and depth beyond what they even expected. Cody and I have a great conversation about growing up in Idaho, playing in his dad's band with his brothers, moving to Austin and starting Reckless Kelly, their experiences with releasing albums and touring the U.S. for 20 years, the importance of art in everything from writing songs to album packaging, making Sunset Motel and much, much more. I hope you enjoy my conversation with Cody as much as I did. Let's get down!
