Episode 204: DJ Chorizo Funk

hello my friends! i hope this episode finds you happy, healthy and fighting the good fight. i'm up early because my smoke detector woke me up doing that "beep every 2 minutes" thing they only do when you're sleeping. anyway, i have to get my car into the shop and do some laundry before i leave town in a couple of hours for some out of town SKYROCKET! gigs this weekend. oh! quick plug... tuesday, september 24th is HAAM day in austin, tx. hello beautiful people! this is a GREAT show!!!!! i had a great weekend.  i played in houston and in oklahoma city. we played wes welker's wedding party in OKC on saturday. he sang with us. i tell the story of our experience on the show. then, after the show i got a message from cy curnin from the fixx. it's extremely surreal and i put it on the show as well. check it out. it's crazy! you can see the pic of wes and i on our facebook page . while you're there, you should push the "like" button.
our guest for episode 86 is the incredibly talented guitar player from dashboard confessional/solo artist, john lefler. i've known john for a long time because his big brother, bill, was the drummer of goudie. anyway, john just released his second solo e.p., "shout fire", which was produced by bill. i was so glad that john was able to stop by and we could have this conversation. we talk about the significance of the song, "sister christian" to his musical upbringing, being in a band with no name, naked shows at the hole in the wall, getting in dashboard confessional and being able to draw wieners no matter what! this is one of my top 5 favorites. i really hope you like it.

i love and have always loved dance music. although i must say, dance music and d.j. culture can be polarizing among my peers in rock. some will say, "it all sounds the same." "it's not even music"... but it is. they're not making 3 minute songs working out their problems in the lyrics. it's not about instrument virtuosity. it's about creating a vibe. it's about bringing a group of people together and celebrating. hopefully, you'll be able to sit back and listen to this episode and have a greater understanding for music that just wants you to have a good time.
my guest for episode 61 is d.j. toddy b. toddy has won several austin music awards for best d.j., including this year! i was glad that toddy agreed to, and came by, the apartment. we talked about how he works a party, opening for for bigger d.j.'s like deadmau5 and skrillex, the increasing popularity of dance music and d.j. culture, his radio show and podcast and much, much more. i really enjoyed my conversation with toddy. i hope you do to.
