Hello friends! I have a double-header for you today! First up, Gray Parsons, who's one-man recording project The Higher Ups have just released it's debut album, the brilliant, Eternal Return. Gray wrote, recorded and produced the album all by himself on his Tascam 388 analog tape recorder (my all time favorite machine) and you can find it The Higher Ups Bandcamp page. Gray and I have a great conversation about making an album by yourself on analog equipment, the biblical imagery on the album, what is a nihilist and more. Next up, Altamesa frontman Evan Charles joins me. Their new album, the dark and dreamy, Idol Frontier drops next Friday, 2/8. Hello friends! Guitarist, Kyle Shutt from The Sword and Doom Side of the Moon is my guest for episode 767! Kyle has just finished his awesome, debut solo album where he plays all the instruments and wrote all the songs. The self-titled album drops on May 6th, but if you live in Austin, you can see him perform the songs on the album at his first solo show with his new band on Monday, January 28th at The 13th Floor. Hello friends! Ryan Harkrider, frontman for Austin soul band, The Nightowls returns to the show for episode 687! Hello friends! Congratulations to the world champion Houston Astros and the city of Houston. That was a much needed win. My dear old friend and the drummer behind artists like Mineral, Bob Mould, David Rice, The Damnwells and many, many more, Matt Hammon is my guest for episode 640! Matt has just released his first solo album, Siver Suitcase which he wrote, recorded and played all of the instruments himself in his home studio. Silver Suitcase is a gorgeous record and Matt's songs tell the his incredible story. Matt and I have a great conversation in my hotel room in Houston about being everyone's drummer in the 90's and early 2000's, how his life was altered by 9/11, the struggle and ultimate triumph of making Silver Suitcase, surviving cancer and changing his life, we get evacuated from my hotel room at the beginning of the conversation and much, much more! Hey gang! I hope you've had a good week. Maybe you're getting ready for the weekend. I am. The weekend usually means my work time. I'm traveling this weekend. Sunday is Mother's day. I hope you remembered to get something for your mom or the maternal figure in your life. I am behind on my Mother's day gifts for my aunt and grandmother. I think I'm going to get flowers on Sunday morning on the way. Good idea, right? I'll let you know how it turns out on Tuesday.
