hello friends! i hope you all had a good memorial day weekend. there was crazy rain, flooding and general old-testament-style devastation here in austin. i want to tell you guys about some solo shows i have coming up this week. tonight, tuesday, may 26th i'll be playing at the volstead in austin. i'll be playing at 10 right after last friday's guest, the big fix and right before one of my favorite people, kayce laine from nyc. thursday, may 28th, i'll be playing at 502 bar in san antonio at 9pm opening for one of my best friends, joseph king from nyc. and friday, 5/29, SKYROCKET! will be rocking hanover's in pflugerville at 10 pm. my guest for episode 381 is music business veteran, mark proct! mark shares his journey through 40 years in this business working as a roadie, soundman, tour manager, manager and everything in between with the likes of willie nelson, asleep at the wheel, jerry jeff walker, the fabulous thunderbirds, stevie ray vaughan, the vaughan brothers, the arc angels, storyville, vallejo and more. that whole time, mark had a camera and was documenting his exciting trip with all of these legendary musicians and has just put out an amazing and gorgeous book, "home today gone tomorrow", which is a collection of candid photos and stories spanning a 40 year career in this crazy business. mark and i sat down last week and went through the book and his life for 2 whole hours and here it is. i hope you enjoy it. i sure did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. maybe you had a short week because of labor day. if so, congratulations. i'm back at it tonight with SKYROCKET!. we're playing the finish line of a fun run tonight here in austin, then we're flying out at 7:30 in the morning to oklahoma city to jump on a shuttle that will take us to some crazy disco-golf tournament a couple of hours outside of okc. i'll be back sunday. should be fun. i want to remind you that tuesday is my last "johnny goudie & friends" residency at strange brew. i have a great line-up that night... ryan holley, joe reyes and the legendary kathy valentine! if you're in austin, come THIS tuesday sept. 9th at 8 pm and let's say goodbye to this summer residency in style!my guests for episode 306 are tony scalzo and kevin mckinney from the band, wrenfro! kevin and tony have both been on the show and you might know tony from the band fastball and kevin from his band, soulhat. anyway, these amazing talents have joined forces and started a band called, wrenfro. after settling on the right line-up, chris gebhard on bass and ed jarusinsky on drums, they've released  two singles on itunes and cd baby, they're getting ready to embark on a wednesday residency at strange brew starting on wednesday, sept 17th at 8 pm. anyway, we have a great conversation about the state of the music business, fastball,  spotify, wrenfro in the studio and much more. i love kevin and tony. i recommend checking out their music on itunes and if you live in austin, get out to a show and see what they're all about. let's get down!ciao! -jgsponsored by: strange brew lounge side

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. things are good here. i've been working on booking interviews for sxsw... it's gonna be nuts! i have a quick announcement to make for those of you in austin....The McCormack family home was severely damaged during the recent floods in the Onion Creek area. hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. things are all good here in johnny world. hey! if you're in austin next friday, december 20th, i'll be playing a solo show at the one-2-one bar from 6-7pm. a happy hour holiday solo show! come out and say ho! i've been booking a lot of guests for 2014 already. looking to the festivals to see what kind of cool guests i can get for the show. do you have any ideas for guests? let us know at the "how did i get here?" facebook page. my guest for episode 229 is nigerian born singer/songwriter, kalu james. i had met kalu over the years, but never really sat down and talked to him. well, a couple of weeks ago he came over and we had a great conversation. we talked about growing up in nigeria, finding bootleg steely dan cassettes in nigerian  market places, moving to new york for college, playing around in the open mic scene, fela kuti, treacherous restaurant gigs and much, much more. it's a great conversation. kalu is a fun and interesting guy to talk to. enjoy!ciao! -jg

i'm sick and it sucks.
hey guys! i hope you're all doing well. i've been sick for a few days. i might be coming out of it, but i still feel like shit. yuck! today's show was recorded live at antone's last week. the sound quality is a little funky because i recorded it with a field recorder on the stage. hopefully, it works for you. anyway, my guests are western youth, christy hays, the love leighs and aaron blackerby. i'd like to thank aaron, the folks at antone's, all of the guests and especially the folks that came out and supported the show. we had a great time and a great conversation. we talked about new zealand, blues in ft. worth, forestry, eye contact at "live sex" clubs, freddy mercury ukelele tribute albums and  much much more, there are a lot of laughs on this one! thanks again to everyone who came out and made it a great night!

hello everyone! i hope this podcast find you well. there's a lot going on here at "how did i get here?". we're changing our logo and looking into a new website that will house, "all things johnny". it can be a place where you can find the latest episode of the podcast, listen to my latest songs, find out where skyrocket is playing next and where and when i'll be playing. so, we'll keep you up on what's going on...
our guest for episode 138 is pedal steel/guitar player, ricky ray jackson. i've known ricky for about 7 years and i've always liked him a lot. he always makes me laugh and he is extremely talented. you might know ricky from playing with, hayes carll, craig finn (the hold steady), bruce robison and most recently, alejandro escovedo. i was glad i was able to sit down and talk to ricky. it's a great conversation. i hope you enjoy it. i did.
