Episode 270: Randy Weeks

Tuesday Apr 29, 2014

Tuesday Apr 29, 2014

hello my friends. my guest for episode 270 is the talented singer/songwriter, randy weeks. you might know him best from his song, "can't let go" on lucinda williams' grammy winning album, car wheels on a gravel road. i saw randy play a couple of months ago at a benefit i was hoisting. we had a great chat backstage and i invited him to be on the show. turns out, he's a really great hang with an interesting story that goes from the 80's underground country/rock/folk scene in los angeles that included such luminaries as pete anderson, dwight yoakam, lucinda williams and many more to now when he's in austin, playing shows and starting a power-trio and much more. i hope you enjoy getting to know randy weeks. i sure did.

Episode 256: Jolie Goodnight

Tuesday Mar 18, 2014

Tuesday Mar 18, 2014

hello my friends! i hope that you are all doing well. if you were in austin for sxsw, i hope you've made it home safely or are making your way home safely. woah! what an overwhelming experience that was. i am completely exhausted by the experience. this year had a very different feeling than any other. it was very uncomfortable and even before the tragic deaths, there seemed to be a feeling of heaviness in the air. very strange. i interviewed a lot of people. you'll be hearing those shows in the coming weeks. i hope you like them. my guest for episode 256 is the lovely and talented, jolie goodnight! i just met jolie when i was working on her mom's album a month or so ago. her mom is kimmie rhodes (who you might have heard on the show last fall) and her dad was music legend, joe gracey. anyway, i got a copy of her debut album, "goodnight gracey" when i left that day. when i got home and listened to it, i loved it. after i asked her to come on the show, i was looking at some of her videos on youtube and found out that she is also a showgirl and burlesque dancer with the popular troupe, the jigglewatts. anyway, we really hit it off and had a great conversation about everything we could think of. jolie is a great talent and a great hang. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did.ciao! -jg

Episode 230: Craig Marshall

Tuesday Dec 17, 2013

Tuesday Dec 17, 2013

hello my friends! i hope you're all doing well. things are good here. i'm going to do some christmas shopping today. going to the local record stores and buying music for family members. i'll be getting music that's in their taste range but something they haven't heard or heard of. i hope i can find something that my grandparents will like. it's kind of exciting to do this. i'll let you know how it goes. oh! if you're in austin this friday, december 20th, i'll be playing a solo show at the one-2-one bar from 6-7pm. it's an early show for your friday night. i hope to see you there!my guest for episode 230 is the great singer/songwriter, craig marshall. i've known craig since the 90's when i would see his band, the lucky strikes. the lucky strikes are still out there playing and doing it, but in the early 2000's craig asserted himself as a songwriter and started a solo career to coincide with the lucky strikes. what followed was a series of great solo records that found his songs covered by all kinds of people and started his reputation as a songwriter's songwriter. his latest album, hiding in the doorway was produced by robert harrison (cotton mather, future clouds and radar) and brings in more of a country flavor. anyway, craig came over a while back and we sat down and got into it. it's a great conversation and i hope you enjoy it as much as i did. ciao! -jg

my guest for episode 108 is the incredible, michael fracasso. i first heard and met michael in 1991 when i moved into the congress house recording studio. he was recording his first album.i fell in love with michael's timeless, lonesome voice and sweet songs instantly and have been a fan ever since. michael just released his 8th album, "saint monday" last year and has been touring behind it ever since. we talked about his humble beginnings in a small, ohio steel town to preparing for his 9th album and everything in between. i have always liked michael a lot. he's a great guy. i hope you enjoy our conversation as much as i did.
