Episode 45: Jon Sanchez (Paraguay, The Summer Wardrobe, The Flying Saucers)

the grammy's are this weekend. i hope i get to see them. even though, unless i entertain myself by making fun of everything and everyone on the show, they make me feel detached  and depressed about my chosen profession. i'll be driving across the country on sunday. i was thinking of stopping and spending the night in nashville. maybe i'll sit in my hotel room by myself and live-tweet my bitter disdain for mainstream music and culture. if you're interested in such a thing, you can follow me on twitter, @johnnygoudie . my guest for episode 45 is one of my favorite musicians/people in the world and one of my biggest musical influences, jon sanchez. i met jon around 20 years ago when i worked at whole foods here in austin. when we met, he was dating a fellow cashier and was the visionary behind one of my favorite bands of all time, the flying saucers. years later, jon and i would have coffee almost every morning for a few years and become very good friends. i was really glad that jon came over and was so honest about his whole life experience, from his early years in baton rouge, la, to heavy metal madness with chaos horde, to punk rock guitar hero in agnostic front, getting lost on drugs in atlanta, moving to austin and starting the incredibly influential band, the flying saucers, getting lost on drugs in austin, getting clean, becoming a dad, being the go-to guitar player, starting the summer wardrobe and playing with his hero,  roky erickson and much more.... you can hear his new band, paraguay here: http://www.reverbnation.com/paraguaytheband i really enjoyed my conversation with jon. i hope you do too. ciao! -jg
