i made it home safely late wednesday night from my trip to ohio to visit my girlfriend, jessi. we spent valentine's day in cleveland and we went to the rock and roll hall of fame museum. it was cool. i missed some things but i think they go by exhibits. anyway, i saw some cool things that i didn't think i would see in my lifetime... those football pants and knee pads that mick jagger wears in "let's spend the night together". i can't figure out why that would seem like a cool outfit. really cool les paul stuff. jane wiedlin's sg jr. anyway...
my guest for episode 47 is my dear old friend, aj vallejo from the band vallejo. vallejo is about to release their 11th studio album, brother's brew, in april 2012. aj came by the apartment and we talked about how the brothers got started making music, jazz band, moving the band into the garage, getting into trouble with his brothers, staying out of trouble by playing rock and roll, moving to austin, STEAMBOAT, their label marriages and divorces in the 90's, taking their career into their own hands, VMG, making records, having kids and how they got here. ladies and gentlemen, this my friend, aj vallejo.

the grammy's are this weekend. i hope i get to see them. even though, unless i entertain myself by making fun of everything and everyone on the show, they make me feel detached  and depressed about my chosen profession. i'll be driving across the country on sunday. i was thinking of stopping and spending the night in nashville. maybe i'll sit in my hotel room by myself and live-tweet my bitter disdain for mainstream music and culture. if you're interested in such a thing, you can follow me on twitter, @johnnygoudie .
my guest for episode 45 is one of my favorite musicians/people in the world and one of my biggest musical influences, jon sanchez. i met jon around 20 years ago when i worked at whole foods here in austin. when we met, he was dating a fellow cashier and was the visionary behind one of my favorite bands of all time, the flying saucers. years later, jon and i would have coffee almost every morning for a few years and become very good friends. i was really glad that jon came over and was so honest about his whole life experience, from his early years in baton rouge, la, to heavy metal madness with chaos horde, to punk rock guitar hero in agnostic front, getting lost on drugs in atlanta, moving to austin and starting the incredibly influential band, the flying saucers, getting lost on drugs in austin, getting clean, becoming a dad, being the go-to guitar player, starting the summer wardrobe and playing with his hero,  roky erickson and much more.... you can hear his new band, paraguay here: http://www.reverbnation.com/paraguaytheband i really enjoyed my conversation with jon. i hope you do too.

I had a great night last night. i went to matt beardon's "punch" show at the capitol city comedy club. if you live in austin, you should go on tuesdays, the comics are all funny. the crowd is good. it's a good time. i went to see chris cubas who will be on the show very soon. after "punch" i went to the continental club to see alejandro escovedo... the show was utterly inspiring. the band was incredible and al was in great form. i'm looking forward to sitting down and interviewing alejandro on friday. look for that interview to come out next week. tonight, i'm going to see kelly clarkson.
my guest for episode 44 is singer/songwriter, graham wilkinson. i've known graham for a few years now and we've always gotten along really well. i was glad when he agreed to sit down and talk about his journey. a journey that started in a small texas town as the son of a preacher, traveling europe, teaching in micronesia, losing his brother, starting a township and putting out several critically acclaimed albums that include guest appearances by such luminaries as, alejandro escovedo and hayes carll. he just put out a brilliant new e.p. last year called, "spiritual accessories". you can find out more about graham and keep up with him at http://www.grahamwilkinsonmusic.com/ i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did.

it's super bowl week. sorry. it's super bowl week and i don't even know who's playing. well, that's not totally true... i know madonna's playing. i just don't know who she's playing against. i sure do hope she plays "vogue" and uses the big cone boobs from the movie about her and her dancers. i think between the song and the cone boobs, she has a great chance of walking out of there a winner. that's my prediction for the super bowl. now, go call your bookie and put all of your money on madge!!
my guest for episode 42 is my old friend, andy langer. i met andy sometime in early 1993 when he wrote for the austin chronicle and interviewed my band, mr. rocket baby. since then, andy's career has really taken off in both print (esquire magazine) and radio (KGSR weekdays 2-6 pm). he just got to count down the new year with willie nelson and billy gibbons, he books and co-hosts the wildly popular KGSR morning show during SXSW week, he hosts the austin music awards and on and on. if you want to keep up with andy, his website is, andylanger.com or you can follow him on twitter, @andylanger i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did.
