my guest for episode 74 is singer/songwriter, jason blum. a couple of months ago, i ran into jason and his girlfriend at a show here in town. jason told me he had moved back here from nyc and gave me a copy of his unreleased new album, "radio dial". well, the other day i came across the album in a backpack, listened to it and asked jason to come over and talk to me about this new album and how he got here. so, he came over before he went to play a gig, i went with him. it was a good show and a good time. i hope you enjoy my conversation with jason. i did.

hello people! we thought we had lost this recording due to a technical error on our part.  i had such a good time talking to danny and it felt like the audience was really engaged and they really got what we were doing. so, i was bummed when i heard it and it wasn't all there. thank god for my friend, samera who told me that she saw a guy filming the whole thing on his iphone. well, it turns out danny knew who it was and he got us in contact and scott stevens got me the video. i put down the audio. it's recorded like a bootleg and it sounds like a bootleg, but think it makes it even more special. let us know what you think. special thanks to danny malone, jessica jarret and hotel vegas. super special thanks to scott stevens for recording it! i hope you enjoy this episode as much as i do. ciao! -jg
ps. i'll post the video of it to youtube this week! cheers!

hello my friends! i am back home after a few harrowing/fun/sweet/anxiety ridden days in houston. my car broke down as i was leaving town on monday. i had it towed back to houston to my cousin, brian's shop. i waited a round a few days and then it looked like the part wasn't going to come in in time for me to make it home for my gig tonight. so, i just rented a car and came home. brian's gonna take care of the offending issues and my car will be badass! the power of positive thinking.
my guest for episode 72 is the great drummer and my old friend, rob hooper. i met rob in the early 90's. we were in bands that did a lot of shows together and our bands were friends. after those bands ran their course, we didn't see each other much over the years except at a club here and there. during that time rob played a ton of artists including jon dee graham, guy forsyth and eliza gilkyson to name a few. when rob came over, he was hungry so i made him breakfast tacos while i interviewed him. it was great to catch-up with my old friend and have some laughs and share some memories. rob is a sweetheart and a monster drummer. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did.

hey everyone! i hope this podcast finds you well. i am trying to get going out of town but i am moving really slowly today. hey! i was interviewed the other day for a sister podcast, "the backline show". it just came out today. check it out, it's me being interviewed instead of me interviewing. bizzarro how did i get here? thanks to my friend josh for having me on his show. here's a link, http://www.backlineshow.com/
my guest for episode 71 is musician, lonnie trevino. i have known and been around lonnie for a long-ass time. i've always liked him and had some conversations here and there, but i've never gotten to have this kind of talk with him. he filled me in on how he started out in the hotel circuit, moving to austin, all the folks he's played with, his travels, his move to l.a., the various avenues he's taken from sideman to singer/songwriter to band-guy and life as a professional musician. he is a sweet, smart, driven and talented guy. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did.

welcome to episode 70!!!!!! i've been starting to put some new music together. i plan on putting it all up on my reverbnation page. i'll let you know when it's up. i've been waking up really early this week. it's so weird. when i woke up this morning at 4:30 am, there was an ambulance and a fire truck that pulled up to my apartments. lights, sirens, freaky. i have no idea what happened. i should sleep in.
my guests for episode 70 are errol and taye from the funk band, roxy roca. i've known errol for quite a few years and we've played and recorded together and always been great pals. anyway, errol sent me an email inviting me to see roxy roca at the continental club here in austin. i had the night off, so i went and i had a great time. the band was great and really fun. there was a fantastic crowd. it was like a party! i asked errol and taye to come by the next day and be on the show and they said yes so... here it is, my conversation with errol and taye from the band, roxy roca. i hope you enjoy it. i did.

holy-moly! episode 69!!!!! i am way too mature to make a joke about this. also, it's not a joke. how are you? i just finally heard back about my car... monday. i'm about to go to houston. skyrocket! has a show there tonight (fri. may 11th) at the continental club. i'm looking forward to a long nap on the way down there. i should've had this up this morning but i was running behind and i really wanted to exercise. it makes the long shows easier when i've been running all week. so that's my story. what's yours? like us on facebook. and if you just can't get enough, follow me on twitter @johnnygoudie
my guest today is singer/guitarist, lauren larson from the brilliant band, ume. i had never met lauren when she came over a couple of days ago, but it was such a pleasure talking to her and getting to know her a bit. her humble beginnings at playing in the diy punk scene at 14, meeting the man she would eventually marry and start ume with at 15, more punk bands, graduate school in pennsylvania, austin and the beginnings and exciting journey of ume, teaching kids to rock when not rocking herself. lauren is really cool. i really enjoyed my conversation with her. i hope you do too. ume music

i've been stranded at my place without a car for a week. in this episode you'll hear about the most exciting thing that could have happened to me... a rock and roll miracle.
my guest for episode 68 is michael kincaid from what made milwaukee famous. i've been a fan of theirs since i first heard them. i met michael a few years ago. he was in a video for a song i had out. wmmf has a new album coming out this summer called, you can't fall of the floor. i was glad michael was able to stop by and talk to me about his journey from katy, tx to austin, to nashville and back to austin, the origins of wmmf and their experience from making making their own album to playing on austin city limits with franz ferdinand, touring with dr. dog, playing in a lot of bands and ready to bring what made milwaukee famous back to the people. they have some shows coming up so go to, their website to find out more about their schedule, new album status and kickstarter program for a new video. i always like running into michael and talking to him, so i was glad we could do this. Episode 67: David' Garza

Friday May 04, 2012

Friday May 04, 2012

hi people!
as i sit down to write this paragraph about this interview, i am realizing all of the things i never talked to my guest about. he's opened for and toured as a sideman with fiona apple, alejandro escovedo and more. writing and working with the hanson brothers and so many more... oh well, this can be my excuse to have him on again in a year.
my guest for episode 67 is my dear friend, david' garza! david' and i played our first show together in 1991 at fitzgerald's in houston and have been friends ever since. david' was a tough guy to nail down for this. he is not one that's comfortable in these situations without making music, so i was so ecstatic that after months of asking, he finally agreed to come and talk to me on the record. david' is my favorite musician. when he picks up an instrument, wether it's my ukelele at a party and playing a hawaiian version of "the stroke" by billy squier or sitting at a piano in a random restaurant and playing for hours, i love to hear him make music. david' is an extremely versatile and prolific musician. if you don't own any of his music or have never seen him play live, i urge you to go to www.davidgarza.com immediately and buy some music and find out when he's playing near you!  i really hope you enjoy our conversation. i did!

hello everyone! i've had a good week. last thursday, i went to see comedian, marc maron. he also has a great podcast called, "wtf". the show was amazing. afterwards, i got to meet him. then a couple of friends took me to the after party where i found my self with the likes of marc, andy kindler and seth meyers along with a bunch of local comics. anyway, i got kinda starstruck and went home. i know. what a tool. i spent friday and saturday in houston playing with skyrocket!. we had some good shows. we played at the house of blues both nights. sunday we did our second LIVE "how did i get here?"! our guest was danny malone. danny and i had an amazing conversation, the crowd was great and then, he played a beautiful set after our interview. sadly, something went wrong in the recording and we won't be able to release it. but don't worry, we'll be doing more!!!! thank you to danny for being so great and to hotel vegas for being so accommodating. sorry to danny and his fans for the loss of the interview. next time!
