my guest for episode 114 is the super-talented and very sweet, elijah ford. he's just released a new album, elijah ford and the bloom, ashes. it's the second solo effort from elijah and explores more of his pop/rock side. elijah told about making the album, growing up in rock and roll (his father is marc ford from the black crowes), playing in his dad's band, marc ford fuzz machine, then going on to play with ryan bingham, being in the movie, "crazy heart", winning an oscar and a grammy, endless touring then coming home, making solo albums and getting engaged. the whole time, he's been an inspired artist and a grounded human being. he's really cool. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i sure did.

Saturday Oct 20, 2012

lo-fi jedi!
hello everyone! i hope you're well. i just got in from washington d.c... a quick one-day trip. i went up with skyrocket! to play a benefit. it was a great time. we had a good show and i walked around on thursday when we got there and the next day, i went running all around the white house and the national mall. i had a great time doing that. i also realized as i was running, that i don't cook enough. i live by myself and it's hard to motivate to cook for just yourself, but i'm going to do it. i need to eat healthier and i need to be a better cook. so, here we go. next week, i'm going to get all the right pots, pans, spices and knives to cook and start picking out recipes... maybe a couple a week. do you know any good recipes? send them to me. thanks!
my guest for episode 113 ishome-recording lo-fi-jedi,  jp pfertner, also known as, oh look out. there's a group of folks i know that grew up recording and writing on four-track cassette machines. jp is one of those guys. so am i! so, we had a lot to talk about.... from learning four-track and music to playing with bands to starting built by snow, becoming a father, making his own video (which is absolutely brilliant) and making his latest album, "orchestral fuzz". you can find out more about oh look out at http://ohlookout.com/ you can watch his video for "monster fiction" which is amazing! i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did.

Episode 112: Ralz Mathias

Tuesday Oct 16, 2012

Tuesday Oct 16, 2012

oh baby, you... got what i need.
friday night i saw little joe washington at the continental club in houston. i can't stop thinking about how amazing he was. i talked to him after his show, i got my picture taken with him and of course, i asked him if he would be on my podcast. apparently, podcast are a completely foreign concept to a 74 year old blues man. anyway, i've been watching some of his videos on youtube and geeking out on him. i know a couple of guys that play with him so hopefully, i'll get him on the show before too long. check out his website http://www.littlejoewashington.com/index.html he's fucking awesome!
my guest for episode 112 is my old friend, soul singer, ralz mathias. i've been friends with ralz since the late 80's when we were both lead singers of funk bands in houston. we talk about those days along with ralz's musical journey. from growing up as an artsy kid in baytown to starting a new-wave band, then going into a funk/rock direction showcasing for labels taking a break from music and and getting back in full-force, releasing his first solo album, liar lover sinner saint . so, ralz came by my hotel room when i was in houston last weekend and we sat down and caught-up. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did.

hello folks! i am getting my shit together to leave town for the weekend. i'll be playing at the continental club in houston tonight (10/12/12) with SKYROCKET! if you're in houston, come by. it's a good time. sunday is my birthday. i have no plans... i should make some. i'll let you know what happens on next tuesday's show.
my guest for episode 111 is the extremely cool bass player, harmoni kelley mccarty. i've seen and known harmoni for a few years from seeing her play with bob schneider and jon dee graham. we always say "hi" to one and other, but we've never had a proper conversation. well, i'm glad we did. a few weeks ago i saw harmoni play with the david bowie tribute band, super creeps. it was awesome so i asked her to come by and do the podcast. i learned a lot about harmoni and i asked her to be in my new band... i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did.

my guests for episode 110 are kyle robarge and chris patin from, the calm blue sea. to me, the band is part shoe gazer and part beautiful film score. they even released an original score they did for a silent movie from the 20's. their new album, "arrivals and departures" comes out today, (10/9/12) chris and kyle came by the apartment the other day and we sat down and they told me how the band got together, found it's vision and reincarnated itself a couple of times. they're great guys and love the band. their music is simply gorgeous. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did.

my guest for episode 108 is the incredible, michael fracasso. i first heard and met michael in 1991 when i moved into the congress house recording studio. he was recording his first album.i fell in love with michael's timeless, lonesome voice and sweet songs instantly and have been a fan ever since. michael just released his 8th album, "saint monday" last year and has been touring behind it ever since. we talked about his humble beginnings in a small, ohio steel town to preparing for his 9th album and everything in between. i have always liked michael a lot. he's a great guy. i hope you enjoy our conversation as much as i did.
