hello my friends! i hope you're all heading into the weekend with awesome plans. maybe you're going to see some music. maybe some music needs you to come see it. i say you look up your favorite local entertainment guide, be it online or even analog newsprint, find yourself a band to see. if you like them, buy their album, cd, download card, t-shirt, sweatshirt or any other merch they have. like their facebook page, follow them on twitter and instagram. what i'm saying is, get out there this weekend and see some music. if you like it, support it. get involved. my guest for episode 356 is the talented and always entertaining, tommy mack! tommy mack & the lifters have ben playing around for a while. they have a couple of rocking albums out. you can find them, their music and when they're playing at thelifetrs.net. i've known tommy for over 20 years and we've been trying to do this podcast for the last two years. we finally got it together and had a great conversation about the hard rock scene in the 80's, the a.r.c. hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. this year is just flying by isn't it. i hope you're finding the time to stop and smell the roses. how did you like the oscars? i always think i'm going to like those things, but i really have more fun just making fun of everything than actually watching the show. especially on twitter. i loved "boyhood" & "birdman". i would've taken either as best picture. i am sad that the drummer guy in "birdman" didn't "qualify" for an academy award. that was one of my favorite things in a movie EVER! i've been doing podcasts every day this week. i have a lot of great shows coming in the next few weeks. plus, SXSW is coming! run for your life!!!!my guests for episode 355 are new york rockers, wild adriatic! this amazing rock and roll band just moved to austin to write songs, taking on a saturday night residency at empire control room and garage. they're releasing a new e.p., never enough on tuesday, march 17th 2015. this is the guys' second appearance on the show. they were on last year while they were here on tour. anyway, we had a great conversation about their recent european tour, how they make songs, life in the van, how spotify helps them spread the word, mateo's love of merchandise, we talk gear and just what the hell they're doing in texas for 6 weeks. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i sure did. plus, laurie hebert from pick with austin stops by and talks about their current instrument drive. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. i'm feeling good. i've been busy as shit. for one, skyrocket played a show on tuesday in houston also, we have a big corporate show coming up the first week in march that we have to learn a bunch of songs for. the night before that i'm playing my first show back with johnny in the ladies room where i'm re-learning songs for that and i've been doing podcasts every day and booking sxsw.... things are crazy. no gig this weekend, but i'll be at the quiet company release show at empire control room on saturday. if you're going to that show, you should come out early and see wild adriatic. they play at 7:30. make a night out of it.my guests for episode 354 are full-on funk pushers, roxy roca! errol and taye make their second appearance on the show. they have big news, their debut album, ain't nothin' fancy, comes out next tuesday, 2/24/2015! if you live in austin, they have a record release next wednesday, 2/25/2015 at c-boys on south congress. they're also heading out on tour so look them up at www.roxyroca.com    anyway, errol and taye came by and we got to talk about recording ain't nothin' fancy completely live, getting a new bus, how they use tito's vodka to get the funk out of their suits, their view on spotify and much, much more. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i sure did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you al had a wonderful valentine's weekend. i had a good weekend, but as you'll hear in the intro, a sad valentine's day. skyrocket played some fun shows this weekend and we had some good laughs backstage. speaking of shows, i have a show coming up in a couple of weeks with my all-girl band, johnny in the ladies room. it's a great garage rock band featuring me, kathy valentine, dominique davalos and christina comly. we're playing on friday, march 6th, 2015 at lambert's in austin, tx. here's a link to the event page, johnny in the ladies roommy guest for episode 353 is the amazingly talented and insightful, taylor muse from quiet company! this is taylor's 3rd time on the show and i think the conversations keep getting better. quiet company has a new album, transgressor, coming out NEXT tuesday 2/24/15 on modern outsider records. the album is gorgeous. once again, taylor is working out his life in song and once again, it is a beautiful and transformative experience. i hope you enjoy our conversation that ranges from everything to current music, seeing bands, making transgressor, making peace with your demons and much, much more. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i sure did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well and you're ready for the weekend and excited about president's day. anyway, things are good. i am getting some songs together for a show i have on march 6th at lambert's in austin. i'm playing with my all-lady band, johnny in the ladies room. it should be super fun. members of the bluebonnets and me playing garage rock. yes! i'm really looking forward to this. we haven't played a whole show together in almost 5 years. i've gotten to sit in with the bluebnnets a few times over the last few years but, we're finally doing the BAND again. i'll fill you in as it gets closer. my guests for episode 352 are amazing solo artists individually and they come together to do the close-harmony duo, brennen leigh & noel mckay! brennen and noel are both prolific songwriters that split their time between austin and nashville and the road. i love their solo work but i also totally love their duo stuff. we got to sit down a couple of weeks ago and talk about, nashville, songwriting, the road and much, much more. i hope you enjoy getting to know brennen and noel. i sure did. plus, christopher durst and lisa dahl stop by and tell us about their new non-profit, foster5. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope life is treating you well. things are good here. i've been booking sxsw 2015 podcast interviews. it took me a week! i've reached out to a ton of bands and i've heard back from around 18 so far. not bad. i'll be confirming days and times over the next 3 weeks. that's always a weird juggling act for me. my friends, wild adriatic are moving to austin on friday. i'm pretty excited about that. they're an amazing band. if you live in austin, if you love rock and roll, do yourselves a favor and find out where they're playing and go see them. my guest for episode 351 is my dear old friend, stephen doster! stephen just released a new solo album, arizona, a couple of months ago, he toured england in support of it and now he's bringing the release shows stateside starting with a record release show in austin at strange brew lounge side on saturday, february 14th at 9:30. if you live in austin, get out and see this brilliant artist and one of my favorite songwriters/musicians/all-around dudes. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did. let's get down!ciao! -jg
