Hello friends! I hope you had a very happy holiday. My friend, Aaron Blackerby from the rock band, Major Grizz returns to the show for episode 655! They been recording some songs with producer and "How Did I Get Here?" favorite, Frenchie Smith and the first single, "Ring Wormington" comes out next week. They'll be playing three shows for "Free Week" Here in Austin, get out and see them and Austin's many other treasures. Aaron and I have a great conversation about "sprinkling singles" as opposed to "making in rain", recording with with Frenchie Smith, releasing singles and keeping the band fresh, "Free Week and much, much more. Hello friends! I hope you all have a very happy holiday! Austin-based frontman,songwriter and guitar aficionado Andy Macintyre is my guest for episode 654! Hello friends! Austin music legends Eddie Wilson and Jesse Sublett are my guests on the show today! Eddie Wilson started The Armadillo World Headquarters in 1971, brought the cowboys and the hippies together under one strange and beautiful roof to bond over music made by people that would go on to be some of music's greatest legends. He and musician/author, Jesse Sublett wrote the definitive story of the celebrated, historical music/art venue. "Armadillo World Headquarters: A Memoir" by Eddie Wilson with Jesse Sublett is an amazing account of the place and the people set in motion the Austin music scene that we know today. Hello friends! Kalu James from kalu & The Electric Joint returns to the show today! Kalu has gone through some changes since his last visit to our show. Since his father's passing, he joined forces with his talented guitar playing co-writer, JT Holt and along with co-producer Brett Orrison they've made an amazing album about loss and redemption, Time Undone. Through the process of making the album and healing in life, Kalu ditched the nightly restaurant gigs and focused his energy on making an album with purpose. It's paid off. Kalu and I have a great conversation about comeing together with JT and making music, getting rid of his anger, becoming a U.S. citizen, making Time Undone, his connections to Widespread Panic and more. Conrad recently moved back to the U.S. after living in a few countries and finally settling in Cambodia for a while where he recorded a brilliant solo album, Original Machines. Hello gang! My guest today, heralded blues/roots musician and songwriter Johnny Nicholas will reissue his long out-of-print 1977 album, Too Many Bad Habits, along with a special bonus disc of previously unreleased performances. The two-disc set has been completely remastered and includes the liner notes from the original Blind Pig LP release in 1977. A new set of liner notes written by acclaimed author/music critic Ed Ward will also accompany the CDs and vinyl. Featured artists on the original sessions included blues legends Big Walter Horton on harmonica and vocals, Johnny Shines on guitar and vocals and Boogie Woogie Red on piano and vocals, as well as Ray Benson and other luminaries of the original Asleep at the Wheel lineup. He'll be celebrating this re-release on Thursday, December 7th here in Austin with an instore at Waterloo Records at 5 pm and a relase party at Antone's at 9:30. Hello friends! Singer/songwriter, Brian Pounds is my gust for episode 648! Brian's latest album, the gorgeous, Southern Writer is out now but only available on his website, brianpounds.com. You might know Brian from his stint on season five of "The Voice". Well, Brian came by last week and we had one of my favorite conversations I've had in a long time. We talk about fatherhood, his time on "The Voice", getting a degree in political sciaence, interning at the Texas State Senate, his decision not to release Southern Writer on streaming services, looking at law schools and much, much more.
