Hello friends! Indie/pop rockers, Color Candy are my guests on the show for episode 627! Their gorgeous debut e.p., Beach Ball came out this summer and the band has been busy playing shows in support of it. They'll be playing this Sunday, September 24th at The 37th Annual Pecan Street Festival at 2 pm on the Trinity stage. hello friends! i hope life is treating you well. news is pouring in about the president and the first lady being the keynote speakers at sxsw this year. that's pretty exciting for austin. it makes me think what those motorcades will do to enhance the over-the-top sxsw traffic. honestly, i think it's cool that they're coming. i'm finalizing my sxsw schedule... i'm doing some podcasts, hosting a SIMS showcase at the san jose' with awesome bands like, sweet spirit, ian moore and the lossy coils, the bluebonnets and more and i'm doing shows out of town with skyrocket. i'm looking forward to a week of madness. speaking of madness, if you live in austin and you're looking for a way to extend your "sunday funday", rev. merrill wade from st. matthews episcopal church has started "soul of a musician series", at the iron cactus north. rev. wade stopped by to tell us what it's all about. if you'd like to find out more about it go to soul of a musician series on facebook.
my guest for episode 469 is filmmaker/photographer/musician, joe salinas! joe has been on the show again to chat about his latest project, a documentary about the legendary punk band, the big boys, called "you can color outside the lines". he's ben traveling all over the country talking to punk legends, rock stars and other raconteurs about the effect of the big boys in punk music. you can find joe's work at joesalinasfilms.com i had a great time catching up with joe about his adventures. i'm sure you will too. let's get down!

hello friends! i hope this episode finds you happy and healthy. the weather has been amazing this week in austin. i've been walking to meetings, walking around outside, driving around, washing my car and doing anything i can to be outside. do you guys do that? when it's nice outside, you just walk around and enjoy the weather. we have a big show for you today, film maker/actor, john valley is here, but before we get to john, i have a quick chat with argentinian rocker, valerio rinaldi who is currently on tour in the u.s. he'll be fralo's in san antonio tomorrow, saturday 2/20 and at the blackerby recital hall in austin, tx on sunday 2/21. we have a great chat about his current tour, touring south america, rock en español and more! get out and check him out. you can find his music here, valerio on bandcamp.my guest for episode 465 is film maker/actor, john valley! you might know john from his sweet spirit videos "baby when i close my eyes" and "baby doll". when i saw those videos back in january, i really wanted to meet him and talk to him on the show because i figured anyone with that kind of imagination would make a fantastic show. well, it did! john and i had a great conversation about growing up in iowa, making films as a kid, acting, interning for terrence malick, collaborating with sweet spirit and much, much more! i suggest you check out his work on his vimeo page to get an idea of his work. it's brilliant! let's get down!

hello friends! i hope you're all out there doing it until you need glasses. things are good here. i wrote a really good song with my pal, gabe rhodes today and i'm writing a song with my old music partner, einar tomorrow. i'm getting into a writing rhythm which i hope will get me out of my "writing funk". i feel like i've been doing false starts musically for the last couple of years. now, i'm just gonna write a bunch of songs and figure it out as i go. wish me luck. my guest for episode 417 is hilarious, writer/comic, chip pope! chip lives in los angeles but was in town a month ago doing some stand-up and visiting family. i saw him do stand up a couple of years ago at a festival and laughed my ass off. we have a few mutual friends and for some reason i feel like i met him when he lived here. anyway, chip came by while he was in town and we talked about writing for ellen, roseanne, the beavis and butthead reprise a couple of years ago, natasha leggero's latest comedy central special, a new comedy/history show for nat geo coming soon, his whacky family, new romantic 80's bands and singers and much, much more. i had a great tome getting to know chip. i'm sure you will too. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're doing well. today is the 10th annual, HAAM day in austin, tx. there is music everywhere from 6 am - 2am. participating businesses are donating a portion of of their income today to HAAM. you can get involved and show your support by supporting participating businesses and/or going to see some music somewhere today. for a complete listing of music, venues and participating businesses got to myhaam.org get out and get involved. HAAM is one of those things that makes austin and the music scene here unique. support it. my guest for episode 410 is rapper/singer/songwriter/author/public speaker and all-around great guy, SaulPaul! i met SaulPaul a month or so ago when we were both on an austin music foundation panel. he seemed like an interesting and talented guy with a lot going on, i was right. saulpaul came by a couple of weeks ago and we talked about losing his mom at 3, prison, college, making unique music that incorporates rap and acoustic guitar, tedtalks, google talks and much, much more. i hope you enjoy getting to know SaulPaul. i sure did. let's get down! ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. things are good here. i have shared custody of my dogs with my ex and she's leaving town today and i'm going to stay with my dogs for a whole week. i love it. i miss living with them, so this is a nice treat. i have to go in for a follow-up post-op appointment at the dentist. i'm pretty sure it'll all be fine. it feels fine. i have a big announcement. as you know, we are closing in on episode 400 and we're going to celebrate by having a live podcast recording! it will take place wednesday, july 29th from 8-10 pm at the townsend. my guests will be aj vallejo, suzanna choffel, jazz mills, nakia and justin elliott! here's a link to the facebook event page. if you live in austin, come celebrate with us.my guest for episode 396 is alex chod from the disco/psych/prog band, wonderbitch! i first heard about them from matt and lauren from solstice festival. so, i looked them up and was blown away by their ability to cross the lines of prog and dance pop. alex and i have a great conversation about everything college in indiana, expensive chords, the subtle magic of the DX7, how to be prog but not too prog, making "playing keyboards" sexy, finding like-minded bandmates, i learn what y.o.l.o. means, über driving and much, much more! their new single, "josanna" is available online now! i had a great time getting to know alex. i'm sure will too. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope this show finds you all out there, fighting the good fight just like the canadian rock-trio, triumph told you to. i'm good. i have a week off from skyrocket, so i've been working on some songs, getting some podcasts done, working on the show a bit. i have a solo show next thursday, 5/28 at the 502 bar in san antonio. i'll be opening for my friend, joseph king and his band of lunatics from nyc. should be fun. check out the event page for times and address. my guest for episode 380 is my old friend and former bandmate, nathan harlan who has a new band, the big fix. in 2003, i joined a band that nathan co-fronted called, endochine. i left the band in 2004 because my life was literally falling apart. they went on for a few months after but soon called it quits. i didn't see nathan much for the last decade... well, we fixed that with this show. nathan came by and we talked about our time in endochine, his move to new york, wriitng, acting and working on films, the decision to put a new band together, the big fix and much, much more. they have some music up at their site, thebigfix.band i had a great time catching up with nathan. i'm glad he's making new music. let's get down!ciao! -jg
