hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. i am getting it together to leave to new york at 6 am for a couple of shows with SKYROCKET! and while i'm there, i'll be doing a couple of podcasts which you'll be hearing soon. anyway, if you're in nyc, come out to the hill country bar b que in manhattan and see SKYROCKET! saturday, june 7th at 9pm. also, while i'm on the promo train, come out to strange brew in austin, tx on tuesday june 17th where we will be recording a live "how did i get here? podcast with our very special guests, funny man charlie hodge, singer/songwriter graham wilkinson and the amazing band, sphynx! there's no cover and a good time will be had by all. speaking of live podcasts from strange brew...my guests for episode 280 "live at strange brew 2" are trish murphy, jazz mills, elizabeth mcqueen and suzanna choffel! we did this live this past tuesday and we had a blast. we heard a childhood radio recording from trish and her siblings from when she was 5 years old, we found out jazz mill has gotten into managing bands, we found out that elizabeth mcqueen has started several bands and we found out that suzanna choffel made her pledge music video with my ex-wife. awkward? listen and find out as i get to the bottom of things like "frenemies" etc. we had a great time. thanks to everyone who came out and thank you to the ladies for making this a great conversation. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends of nature! i hope you're all living high on the hog and other weird phrases that i don't understand. i'm good. i had a weekend of playing with SKYROCKET!. we played a graduation party and the next night we played comicpalooza in houston. good times. i'm about to go over some songs because i'm sitting in with the great jeff plankenhorn tonight at strange brew. i'm looking forward to it. he's having me out because i'm taking over his tuesday residency this summer. i'm doing a couple of live podcasts in june and then playing and hosting a music showcase night in july and august. yes!!! if you live in austin, you should come out to our live podcast recording on tuesday, june 3rd at strange brew in austin. my guests will be suzanna choffel, trish murphy, jazz mils and elizabeth mcqueen. come out and be a part of this show!my guests for episode 277 are the amazingly talented amy lavere and will sexton! amy is a songwriter and amazing stand-up bass player. her new album, runaway's diary just came out today on archer records. the album is absolutely gorgeous. amy and will came by before they head out to the u.k. and the mid-west and west coast for a record release tour. i just met amy a few months ago and heard her and will play and i thought the sound that they made was beautiful. so, i reached out and finally got her in to find out what she's all about. will is a dear old friend of mine (almost 30 years) and one of the musicians/people that respect most in this world. they came by and we got into the whole thing, being a tour guide at sun studios, making records, touring as a couple and much, much more. i hope you enjoy our conversation as much as i did.ciao! -jg

hello interwebsters! i hope you are all doing well in podcastland. i'm good. i've had a busy few days. i played with skyrocket on friday and saturday in houston and san antonio for some fundraisers then sunday afternoon, i played a solo show in austin at smashfest. my friend ryan joined me on sunday and we had a great time jamming out. a couple of friends and i have started a new podcast and we recorded the first two episodes yesterday! the show is called, "does anybody remember laughter?". it's hosted by my friends einar pedersen and ashley bergeron and me. it will debut on the tasty podcast network soon. look for it!my guest for episode 273 is the one and only warner e. hodges. you might know warner best as the guitar player from jason and the scorchers, (who is back, going strong and making new records) or as the guitar player from the dan baird band or the bluefields or his own solo career. watner was in town a while back playing a house concert and my friends penny jo pullus and jason swedberg hooked us up. warner came by and we talked about the rise and fall and resurrection of jason and the scorchers, the cow punk movement, working with dan baird, going solo and much, much more. i hope you enjoy getting to know warner hodges. i did.ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all out there enjoying your worlds. i'm enjoying mine. i had fun recoding my friends, sheridan and mallory last night. sheridan is an old friend with a new batch of songs that we cut with her bass player/harmony singing partner, mallory. good songs. good times. right now i'm getting my shit together to run out the door to play a show with SKYROCKET! in houston. we haven't been playing as much as normally do, but it's been nice to have some weekend nights to do things. or not do things. our website is updated. you can check it out at www.skyrockettheband.com my guest for episode 239 is the "love leigh" and talented, jessica leigh graves! jessica was on a live show we did last summer with her partner from the love leighs, raina, when she told me about a very special project she was putting together... an e.p. of queen songs done on ukulele with a portion of the proceeds going to the grass roots AIDS organization, mercury phoenix trust. i am a huge queen fan and i flipped out and invited her on the show when she was ready to talk more about it. anyway, i heard from her a few weeks ago and she told me she was starting a fan donation campaign to finish out the album. you can donate and find out all about that at www.ukulelequeen.com . jessica and i have a great conversation about everything that goes into making an album like this from licensing to picking out songs and much, much more. she even showed up for the show wearing a freddie mercury mustache! happy new year everyone! i hope you had a safe and wonderful new years eve. i did. i played in houston with SKYROCKET! we helped a guy propose to his lady. i quit smoking... that totally sucks! i'm on my third day and i'm really starting to freak out. i hate it. i played last night and it was all i could think about. i know it gets easier, but this totally sucks.my guest for episode 235 is hammond B-3 organ master, mike flanigin. mike has had an incredible 2013. this year he played with jimmie vaughan at eric clapton's crossroads festival, he played with zz top at the montreaux jazz festival, he played with billy gibbons on his birthday in new york a couple of weeks ago along with will lee and anton fig of the david letterman band. his band, dupree, put out an album, nuestro camino that has garnered critical praise. his duo/trio shows at the continental club gallery are legendary and a "who's who" of special guests. to top it all off, mike flanigin is a really nice guy and and great hang. i hope you enjoy getting to know him as much as i did. ciao! -jg

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!hello friends! i hope you have a safe & happy new year and an incredible 2014! i would like to thank you all for listening. 2013 has been a great year for the show and i can't wait to see what 2014 brings. do you want to now what i'm doing for new year? i'm playing at rockefeller hall in houston tonight with SKYROCKET! it's our big new years eve show. i've   made some resolutions for 2014, 1. write more songs. 2. quit the smoking 3. eat better... i can do it. hey! i'm playing a solo show on thursday, january 2nd at strange brew in austin, tx. i play early, at 6:30. i'm serious. 6:30 - 7:30. if you're in austin, come out and let me entertain you.  my guest for episode 234 is drummer/glass artist/photographer, vincent ambrosone. i haven't known vinnie very long, but we've become pals over the last couple of years. i like his playing a lot, he's very funny and he's a really nice guy. i knew he was playing a lot with the bleu edmonson band, but i learned a lot through this entertaining conversation. we talked about his hatred of kanye, growing up in corning, ny, being the youngest of 8 kids, documentaries, how he became a glass artist, what brough him to austin and muc, much more. i hope enjoy getting to know vinnie. i did. happy new year!

merry christmas everyone! happy holidays and all that stuff too!hello friends! i hope this episode finds you all celebrating the season with loved ones. i am getting my shit together to go see my family for christmas. i'm looking forward to the insanity that is my family. i got my christmas shopping done. i bought everyone music at a local record store. hopefully, they'll all like their presents. i even got the babies albums! well, i hope you and yours have a great christmas!my guest for episode 232 is the incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist/engineer/producer, gabriel rhodes!  i've seen him play a few times and i've always been blown away. i got to chat with him at a gig recently and asked him to be on the show and he said yes. gabe is the son of recent guest, kimmie rhodes, so he grew up in the music world. we had a great conversation about working in willie nelson's studio at age 13,being a skater, his experiences with willie, tom jones, inxs and olivia newton john, learning to record, becoming a producer, making his newest album, the beautiful old and much, much more. i had a great time getting to know gabe. i'm sure you will too. merry christmas!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. i am getting it together to leave town for a mid-week private SKYROCKET! show. this is the last week of SKYROCKET! shows before new years eve. we have three shows this week and i'm playing a songwriter in the round at the one-2-one bar in austin, tx on thursday, december 12th from 7-9 pm. the other songwriters will be drew smith, graham wilkinson and danny matthews. should be a good time. i'm getting back out there. i've booked some solo shows. i have another one next friday, december 20 from 6-7 pm. it's also at the one-2-one bar in austin, tx. i'm really looking forward to playing. if you're in austin, come out and say hi. i'd love to see you.my guest for episode 228 is singer/songwriter, carter beckworth! he's just released his third album, humble heart.  i didn't know carter when he came over, but we sat down (after the dead rat was taken out of my apartment) and headed into "the carter beckworth experience" full-force. turns out he's a really sweet, hard-working guy with some great songs and lady-pleasing looks. he's shared the stage with such acts as ryan bingham, bob schneider, hayes carll and many, many more. if you're in austin this friday, december 13th, he'll be playing with his band at stubb's. you should go check it out! i hope you enjoy getting to know carter beckworth as much as i did. i'm sure you will.ciao! -jg

hello my friends! i hope you're all doing well out there. well, i've got some solo shows booked! they're early and they're in austin. as soon as i get some shows under my belt, i'll head out to some other places. anyway, i'll be playing december 21st at 6 pm at the one-to-one bar. i'll announce the other one as soon as i know what's going on. other than that... i got hbo. that's exciting. my guests for episode 226 are stillwater, oklahoma red dirt country band, celebrating their 25th anniversary, the red dirt rangers! they've just released a new album, lone chimney. i caught-up with them while they were in austin on a promotional tour for lone chimney. they guys stopped by and we talked about everything, living in oklahoma, what's red dirt music?, a near-death helicopter crash, touring, maintaining a band for 25 years and much, much more. special thanks to becky lynn and david sanger for setting this up. i hope you enjoy getting to know the red dirt rangers. i did. ciao! -jg
