hello friends of nature! i hope you are all doing well out there in podcast land. i'm doing well. i saw some friends play last night. it was a good time. i wanted to thank everyone who listened to the last episode (episode 210). i didn't think anyone would listen to it because the show was so different than what we normally do here.... boy, was i wrong! i will try to seize opportunities like that when they arise and bring you some different kinds of shows. i liked doing it. go back and listen. on this episode, i call former guest erin ivey and check-in with her about her new album. she recorded it live in front of an audience with the tosca string quartet. she's releasing an album/dvd combo and she started a kickstarter campaign to fund it's manufacturing and release.our guest for episode 211 is the incredible rock band, sheboygan! you might know sheboygan as the band that wrote and performs our theme song, "needle hits the groove"! i was glad they were able to stop by together, they're some of my best friends and we had a great time talking. we talked about their writing process, recording the album, benjamin hotchkiss' genius advice, motivational speeches, the music business, paul english and his pedals and much, much more. they've just released a new album, triple fantasy . the album is available on vynil online at cdbaby and comes with a download. here's a link to their album http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/sheboygan3 also,they have a record release show coming up on october 17th at the one-to-one bar in austin, tx here's a link https://www.facebook.com/events/161648904029488/ i love these guys! they're a great band and they've made a great record. buy it! i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did.ciao! -jg

Monday Feb 18, 2013

city mouse becomes country mouse.
hello friends! i hope you're doing well. i am. i had a good weekend off. laid low friday and saturday then spent all day sunday having a great time. brunch, cocktails, house party. i have a song due for the songwriting game... i need to start and finish it. definitely tomorrow. i'm getting ready for the liars & saints show coming up at antone's next month. i get a lot of email about that band due to our appearance on the television show, "48 hours". we haven't played since sxsw 2012. i have no idea if we'll play afterwards. i guess we'll all have to stay-tuned and see what happens. either way, i'm excited to get in a room with those guys (and girl) and rock that shit!
do you like our new logo? it was made by the amazingly talented, allyson lipkin. you should hire to make your stuff too. here's her website lipstingmedia.com/
my guests for episode 147 is new york band, black taxi. the four members of black taxi have relocated to austin for two months to write and record new songs and play shows regionally including a residency at austin club, the parish for the month of february. my friend jake and i drove out to their home/studio in the country. they played me some great new songs then we sat down talked about the austin stay, writing songs, what keeps them together, touring, recording, how they feel about all of that and much, much more. also, after the interview i did, we have a special flashback interview from sxsw 2012 with ezra from black taxi and samantha rex from the attic ends. i had a great time hanging out with the guys at their new compound. check out the photos jake took at our facebook page. they're talented musicians and songwriters, thoughtful, smart and very nice. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did.

another 4th of july has passed and all i have to show for it is a burned out sparkler and a new neurotic obsession with my balls.
hey everyone! i hope you're doing well. i had a conversation at a party last night that left me with the burning question, how long should my balls be? well, i'm concerned. apparently long-balls are a turn-off. do you think there's such a thing as testiplasty? get back to me.
my guest for episode 83 is austin radio personalty b-doe! b-doe is a disc jockey on klbj fm here in austin and a big supporter of live music and musicians. he got his start on the austin music network, got another tv show, which he also co-created, and eventually ended up on the radio. i've always gotten along great with him. he is a sweet guy and as i said, a great supporter and fan of music. i was glad b-doe could come by the apartment and we could talk about how he got here. enjoy it! i did.

my guest for episode 81 is the incredibly talented, jodee purkeypile. jodee was in a band you might have heard called the alice rose. i have had the good fortune of knowing jodee since he was around 13 and he ran around with my godson who's father owned the club i had a residency at for a lot of the 90's called steamboat. anyway, jodee and i talked about his upbringing in music and around so many musicians, the rise of piGie Hat, transforming into the alice rose, his four-tracking years, solo albums and his kickstarter campaign for his new solo album. it was great to sit down and chat with jodee, it's been a long time. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did.

my guests for episode 76 are isaac and portland from the band, electric touch. you might remember electric touch's singer and my dear friend, shane lawlor, was our guest for episode 5!!!! when i interviewed shane, their island/def jam release, NEVER LOOK BACK hadn't been released yet. in fact, i think their single came out a few weeks after our interview. anyway, tweeted isaac yesterday and asked him to be on the show so that we could catch-up. the band has been on tour with evanessence and hot chelle rae, they've made a couple of videos, they've been playing festivals, they've been active on social media and they have a growing and very loyal following. i was glad that isaac and portland came by. i always love running into them and seeing them around. they're great guys and i had a great time talking to them. i hope you enjoy it too.
