hello friends! i hope you're all well. i just got back from new york yesterday and i feel like crap. i think i have some sort of summer cold or just full-blown city exhaustion. i had a great time out there. played a couple of shows with SKYROCKET!, saw a bunch of friends, did a podcast, walked about 80,000 miles, stayed in the nice part of town and stayed in the ghetto... i had the city experience without ever even getting in a subway. hey! we have a live podcast recoding coming up THIS tuesday, june 17th, 2014 at 8 pm at strange brew in austin, tx. my guest will be, funnyman, charlie hodge, amazing singer/songwriter, graham wilkinson and one of my favorite bands around, sphynx! all of these folks have been on the show and are incredibly entertaining. you should come out, get involved and be a part of "how did i get here?".my guest for episode 281 is the talented and entertaining, ashley monical! i saw a video of ashley's on facebook and i thought it was so good, that i asked her to come on the show and tell me her story. well, it turns out, it's a great story about world travel, following a dream she had since she was a child, american idol, making music, writing songs, making records and finding her unique and beautiful voice on her own. i really enjoyed getting to know ashley. i'm sure you will too. ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you all had a wonderful passover or record store day or easter or earth day or 4/20 day. a lot of celebrating over the last week. i got some good record store day records... jay-z the black album, ume monuments and a couple of days earlier i got kiss alive and a laura nyro album that i heard about while listening to the paul stanley autobiography. good scores! the record stores were full. i saw my friend eve who owns antone's records at end of an ear records, so there was a spirit of solidarity among the record store owners. what a magical day. did you get anything?my guest for episode 267 is one of my favorite comics and one of my favorite people to talk to, john tole! i met john a couple of years ago after one of the "monkeyshine mondays" shows and we hit it off. so, i had john on the podcast over a year ago but i accidentally deleted it before i could put it out. i've always felt terrible about that. luckily, we made up for it with this conversation. john is an amazing comic, a prolific podcaster, he has 4256 productions where he puts out 4 podcasts, "disrupt the illusion", "after the illusion", "cart path diem" and "take it under advisement". he's always on the road and you can find out when he's coming to your town and what ever else you need to know about john tole at johntole.com i hope you enjoy our crazy conversation. i sure did. ladies and gentlemen, john tole.ciao! -jg

Episode 247: Bobby Landgraf

Friday Feb 14, 2014

Friday Feb 14, 2014

"i'm an overnight sensation... it was just a really long night."hello lovers! happy valentine's day. is valentine's day real? it's never been a thing for me. of course, no one ever sends me flowers, chocolates or takes me to a fancy dinner and finally puts in the work for my sex and/or love. so basically, it's just friday to me. i saw erin ivey's record release show last night at the belmont here in austin. what a great show! her new cd/dvd whisper of the moon is an incredible live recording with erin and the tosca string quartet. i recommend it! i'm getting my shit together to head out of town a little later today for some weekend shows with SKYROCKET!. i'm driving alone this weekend, so i'm looking for some good podcasts and maybe and audiobook. my guest for episode 247 is the amazingly talented and incredibly cool, bobby landgraf a.k.a. bobby rock! i've known bobby for a long time and always thought the world of him as both a musician and a dude. i was a huge fan of his band, gahdzilla motor company. anyway, bobby's band, honky is always working and now he's joined the band down which is fronted by pantera's phil anselmo. bobby's story is very real and ultimately very triumphant. his humility and focus on his work has really paid off for him. that makes me proud. i hope you enjoy my conversation with bobby. i did.ciao! -jg

hey guys! i hope you're all doing well. i've been sick for a few days. i might be coming out of it, but i still feel like shit. yuck! today's show was recorded live at antone's last week. the sound quality is a little funky because i recorded it with a field recorder on the stage. hopefully, it works for you. anyway, my guests are western youth, christy hays, the love leighs and aaron blackerby. i'd like to thank aaron, the folks at antone's, all of the guests and especially the folks that came out and supported the show. we had a great time and a great conversation. we talked about new zealand, blues in ft. worth, forestry, eye contact at "live sex" clubs, freddy mercury ukelele tribute albums and  much much more, there are a lot of laughs on this one! thanks again to everyone who came out and made it a great night!
ciao! -jg
