Hello everyone! Drum tech, drummer, educator and first-class motivator, Kenny Sharretts is my guest for episode 663! As a drum tech, Kenny's worked with some of the very best including, Stevie Wonder, Rihanna, Janet Jackson, Train, Puff Daddy and many, many more. As drummer, you might have seen him with Monte Montgomery, Kevin Fowler, Joe King Carrasco, Rusty Wier or his own bands, Super Fleek, So Called Underground Music, Custard Pie and many, many more. You might also know him from his many amazing Youtube videos about drum tuning. He actually has a drum tuning clinic coming up on Monday, February 5th Tommy's Drum Shop presents: Austin Drummers Co-Op at One-2-One Bar from 7-8 pm. I was calling it "ATX Drumming and Social Club" but it's actually called "Austin Drummers Co-Op". Hello friends! I hope the new year is treating you well. Before I get too far into this, I talk about SKYROCKET! playing at Cedar Street tonight (Friday 1/6) in the intro... Well, it's been cancelled due to the weather. I guess I'm going to go out and take advantage of "free week" here in Austin this weekend. There are a lot of shows. If you live here, maybe I'll see you out. 
Seela Misra returns to the show for episode 556! Her gorgeous new album, Track You Down is out now. She'll be playing a record release show at The Cactus cafe' here in Austin on Wednesday, January 18th. Seela and i have known each other and been friends for years. I always have a blast hanging with her and this time was no different. We have a fantastic conversation about making Track You Down, touring with Matt The Electrician, her love for her dog and husband, what to do with your hands when you're just singing back-up with someone and much, much more! My guest for episode 530 is the amazing Thor Harris! The Thor & Friends debut album comes out this Friday, October 7th! Thor and I have been pals since 1989 when he was the drummer for Austin's Stick People. He has since gone on to tour and record with Swans, Shearwater, Bill Callahan, Amanda Palmer, Rebecca Cannon, Lisa Germano and many more. He's recorded 6 albums with Austin studio maven, Rob Halverson. Thor & Friends is a collaboration with Peggy Ghorbani and Sarah "Goat" Gautier and draws on classic minimalist composers for inspiration. They'll be hitting the road with Adam Torres Oct 12 - Oct 30 hitting the east coast. Go to thorharris.org to see if they're coming to a town near you. hello friends! i hope this episode finds you slaying the evil dragons of life and rejoicing afterwards. things are good here. i've ben trying to figure out what i'm going to play next wednesday. i haven't done any solo shows since last september. i might need to figure it out soon. also, i'm looking for band people for a new band. i don't know exactly what i want to do, but i'm willing to try some new shit. we'll see. i'll keep you posted. i feel like i've had some false starts over the last couple of years. time to jam.my guests for episode 344 are matt ott from black fret and one-man-band gothic rocker, lincoln durham. lincoln is one of the recent recipients of black fret's $10,000 grants. we have a great three-way conversation about black fret and how it works from one of it's founders (matt) while getting an insider's view to what it's like to have won a grant. all the while learning about lincoln durham and his amazing and unique musical journey. great guys, great conversation. let's get down!ciao! -jg

merry christmas! i hope you're all in some kind of holiday spirit. i know i am. when this comes out, i'll already be at my grandmother's house in houston with cousins, aunts, uncle chuck, my grandmother, a fuck-load of dogs and chaos. i got all of my shopping done and everything wrapped on saturday. hooray for me! i didn't buy music for everyone. i bought about 8 albums at local record stores and bought the rest of my gifts at local bookstores and clothing stores. while didn't only buy music, i did support local shops. partial success. i hope you all have a very happy holiday what ever you do. my guest for episode 336 is rock and roll drummer extraordinaire, bryan keeling. i first saw bryan play in 1989 when he was the drummer of austin art rock band, water the dog. we played together in mr. rocket baby from 1993-1994. we didn't really talk or hang out until our recent mr. rocket baby reunion and it felt great. bryan has spent the last 20 years playing music, he moved to l.a., recorded with pink, played with shooter jennings for years and now plays with eric sardinas and big motor and tours the world. even africa! i had a great time reconnecting with bryan after so many years. playing music can be a healing experience. join bryan and i for coffee as w catch up over the last 20 years. let's get down! ciao! -jg

hello friends! sorry about the intro to this show. i've been suffering from allergies and some days the medicine works and other days, i'm just living in a cloud. today is one of those days... so, rocktober is here! the austin city limits festival is in town, it's not as hot as it was a couple of weeks ago, my birthday is coming up pretty soon and i'm into it! how are you? if you live in pflugerville and you're not participating in the acl activities, SKYROCKET! will be playing at hanover's in tonight, friday, october 3rd. other than that, i'm heading out of town tomorrow with to play a show in hunt, tx. should be interesting. my guest for episode 314 is drummer/percussionist and now frontman of his very own band, john bush!!! you might know john from edie brickell and the new bohemians, critters buggin', the small stars, the greezy wheels and many other bands. i've met him over the years and got to jam with his all-star band at the one-2-one bar a couple of weeks ago, but i've never gotten to sit down and get to know him. well, a couple of weeks ago he came by the apartment and we took care of that. i hope you enjoy getting to know the incredibly talented and the incredibly cool, john bush. i did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. i am getting it together to leave to new york at 6 am for a couple of shows with SKYROCKET! and while i'm there, i'll be doing a couple of podcasts which you'll be hearing soon. anyway, if you're in nyc, come out to the hill country bar b que in manhattan and see SKYROCKET! saturday, june 7th at 9pm. also, while i'm on the promo train, come out to strange brew in austin, tx on tuesday june 17th where we will be recording a live "how did i get here? podcast with our very special guests, funny man charlie hodge, singer/songwriter graham wilkinson and the amazing band, sphynx! there's no cover and a good time will be had by all. speaking of live podcasts from strange brew...my guests for episode 280 "live at strange brew 2" are trish murphy, jazz mills, elizabeth mcqueen and suzanna choffel! we did this live this past tuesday and we had a blast. we heard a childhood radio recording from trish and her siblings from when she was 5 years old, we found out jazz mill has gotten into managing bands, we found out that elizabeth mcqueen has started several bands and we found out that suzanna choffel made her pledge music video with my ex-wife. awkward? listen and find out as i get to the bottom of things like "frenemies" etc. we had a great time. thanks to everyone who came out and thank you to the ladies for making this a great conversation. let's get down!ciao! -jg
