hello friends! i hope you're all had a good weekend. i actually had a weekend. i didn't play this weekend, so my weekend was "normal". friday was girlfriend, zuri's birthday and we had brunch, went shopping, had a nice french dinner, saw a comedy show, saw a rock & rock/sex show and got really drunk. we got down on friday night and could not get back up on saturday. anyway, i had a great weekend. happy birthday zuri!my guests for episode 460 are daniel and alejandro from psychedelic rock band, the halfways! the halfways just released their debut e.p. a couple of weeks ago, they've been playing in and around texas for the last few months and they're the austin music foundation's band of the month. daniel and alejandro came by a few weeks ago and we had a great conversation about trying to rock in miami, making their way to austin, finding bandmates and bands through ads, making the new ep and much, much more. you can find out all you need from the halfways by going to thehalfways.com. i hope you enjoy getting to now these guys as much as i did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you all had a great holiday weekend. i had a very laid back holiday weekend. i played one show with skyrocket and did a couple of podcasts on saturday and sunday. i got the chance to sit down and talk to paco estrada on saturday at orb recording studios and then sunday morning, bright and early, the trishas came over and we had a great conversation and a lot of laughs. look for both of those in the coming weeks. my guest for episode 440 is one of my favorite people and best friends, the amazingly talented singer/songwriter from alpha rev and flying colors, casey mcpherson! casey has had a busy few years since he was last on. he's released several albums and toured europe a few times with his prog/rock/pop band, flying colors which features mike potnoy and steve morse. he's released a lot of new music with his band, alpha rev. he's also been finding ways to build a community and help his community by raising awareness about affordable housing. this year casey is a black fret nominee and he's performing at the 2nd annual black fret black ball gala at the paramount theater in austin, tx this friday, december 12th. you can find out how to get tickets by going to black fret black ball gala. i hope you enjoy my conversation with casey. i sure did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all braving the extreme heat that is upon us. i'm doing well. just working on some music, booking a live podcast for sept. 9th (details coming soon), prepping for 3 podcasts i'm doing tomorrow etc. so, i listened to the american top 50 chart on spotify this morning while i was running. i probably heard about 15 to 20 songs on shuffle. i wasn't very moved by anything which made me kind of sad. then i realized that there is so much non-mainstream music out there, so much of it comes through this show. i'm really lucky to be in the position to have so much music coming through and getting turned on to so much stuff. it gives me hope. go find some new music. it feels good.my guest for episode 403 is ocean of stars leader, danny grochow! this is danny's second time on the show. he was on a couple of years ago talking about some solo material he was releasing and now he's back with with a new e.p. from his band, ocean of stars. danny is a great guy who is out there playing bass and guitar as a sideman but still makes the time to write, record and perform his original instrumental-prog-rock. we have a great conversation about four track cassette recording, the rpm challenge, finding musicians, writing complex instrumental music, answering want ads and much, much more. i i hope you enjoy our conversation. i sure did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

merry christmas! i hope you're all in some kind of holiday spirit. i know i am. when this comes out, i'll already be at my grandmother's house in houston with cousins, aunts, uncle chuck, my grandmother, a fuck-load of dogs and chaos. i got all of my shopping done and everything wrapped on saturday. hooray for me! i didn't buy music for everyone. i bought about 8 albums at local record stores and bought the rest of my gifts at local bookstores and clothing stores. while didn't only buy music, i did support local shops. partial success. i hope you all have a very happy holiday what ever you do. my guest for episode 336 is rock and roll drummer extraordinaire, bryan keeling. i first saw bryan play in 1989 when he was the drummer of austin art rock band, water the dog. we played together in mr. rocket baby from 1993-1994. we didn't really talk or hang out until our recent mr. rocket baby reunion and it felt great. bryan has spent the last 20 years playing music, he moved to l.a., recorded with pink, played with shooter jennings for years and now plays with eric sardinas and big motor and tours the world. even africa! i had a great time reconnecting with bryan after so many years. playing music can be a healing experience. join bryan and i for coffee as w catch up over the last 20 years. let's get down! ciao! -jg

hello chosen people of podcast land! i hope you're all doing well and settling into fall. maybe you've already had the first fire of the season... the holidays are coming and i hope you're prepared. maybe you've made your plans. i think i've made mine. i'm not going to thanksgiving with my family like normally do. sadly, shows have prevented that from happening this year. oh well. i'l have christmas with the family. hey! i want to let you now that one of our favorite guests and one of my dear friends, suzanna choffel has a pledge music campaign and it's coming to a close in 6 days. you can help her put that album out by going to her pledge music campaign page and getting involved with her album.my guest for episode 325 is rocker, jason mcmaster! jason is making his second appearance on the show. you might know jason from his many, many bands including, watchtower, dangerous toys, gahdzilla motor company, broken teeth, evil united and many, many more. his band, evil united just put out a fantastic new album, honored by fire. he's been putting out hard rock for four decades and he's recently released a single called, "xmas time" that is a total departure from what we know jason for. he's a great artist with a ton of musical output and he's a really sweet guy and i've enjoyed his friendship for over 20 years now. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did. let's get down!ciao! -jg
