hello friends! i hope you're all flying high again! things are going well here at la casa de johnny. i have a great big show for you guys today. before we get to my conversation with moving panoramas, i have a quick chat with michelle faires, producer of "honky tonk heaven: the story of the broken spoke" a documentary about the legendary texas honky tonk. they've just started editing and they've started a kickstarter campaign to finish up their movie. michelle gives us an insight to the story, but you can check it out and give at do it!my guests for episode 427 are the amazing dreamgaze trio, moving panoramas! their gorgeous new album, one came out earlier this month. you can find one and fin out all about them at leslie and rosie from the band came by a few weeks ago and we had an amazing conversation about leslie's life-changing, traumatic few months, turning heartache and confusion into beautiful art, teaching rosie music and becoming bandmates, fear of numbers, school of rock, shoegaze vs. dreamgaze, the making of one, custom earplugs vs. $1 earplugs and much, much more! leslie's story is harrowing, but what she was able to do musically not only made her feel better but it made the world a more beautiful place and for that i thank her and the rest of the band. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. it's my birthday so i don't really know how i am. i'm kinda weirded out by the whole thing, but i'm dealing with it. hey! if you live in austin, my band, skyrocket is playing this friday at the one-2-one bar. we go on at 10. should be a good time. we're playing three shows this week. i'm releasing three podcasts this week. i might be old, but i like to stay busy. my guests for episode 424 are modern rock band, empire machines! their new ep animal skin is available now on bandcamp. they're having a release show this saturday, 10/17 at spider house ballroom. the show is brought to you by our friends at solstice live. so, matt and bruce came by and we had a great conversation about the branch davidians, taking a two year break from playing, recording animal skin, nice music teachers, finding rock and roll in waco, tx and much, much more. bruce and matt are great guys. i hope you enjoy getting to know them as much as i did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all out there walking on sunshine this summer. i'm good... well, not good. i'm anxious because i have to go to the dentist today to have tooth pulled and to put in an implant post. sounds freaky, right? jeez. it stresses me out to be out of it and in pain and just confined to my apartment. all of those thoughts give me anxiety. hopefully, it won't be bad. i'm no stranger to the dentist, but i still get psyched out by that shit. at least they're nice. wish me guests for episode 394 are dream pop, shoe-gazer, rock trio, migrant kids! they've just put out a new single, "thread", produced by bright light social hour they're incredibly cool guys who make really beautiful and powerful music. they stopped by a couple of weeks ago and we had a great chat about their sound, how they make music as a trio, playing bass and drums at the same time, not forgetting where you and your people came from, working with bright light social hour and much, much more. i had a great time getting to know migrant kid, i'm sure you will too. let's get down! ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope this holiday weekend finds you rocking out on some body of water with a cocktail in one hand and a sparkler in the other. i'm well. i'm playing guitar tonight with my friend, amy edwards and then i'll be sitting in on some songs with the bluebonnets. this all goes down tonight, july 3rd at stubbs in austin, tx. cautiontape is also on the bill. good times! i'm looking forward to enjoying my 4th of july at my pool. i might even go buy a float with drink holders. happy 4th of july!!!my guests for episode 392 are austin synth-rock band, knifight! knifight is the austin music foundation's band of the month for july. so i went down to the amf and met these guys in the conference room and we talk about everything, screaming at the audience at the punk clubs of tyler, tx, finding depeche mode and new order, which version of "blade runner" is the best, the making of their new album, V and much, much more. great guys. great conversation. plus, i sit down and catch up with alex and jen from the austin music foundation and they explain their function and role in the community as well as all of the events they have planned for the summer. check it out, have a fabulous 4th of july! stay safe. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. i just found out about the loss of b.b. king. sad to see such a beautiful cat go. b.b., you will be missed. the thrill is gone guest for episode 378 is the amazingly talented, danny malone! this is danny's second appearance on the show. we recorded a live one at hotel vegas 3 years ago in may of 2012. anyway, i am a huge fan of danny malone. he has a gorgeous album out now called, speedreamer. he made the album on my favorite medium, four-track cassette. he is a recent black fret grant recipient. we have a great conversation about, house parties, four-track cassette recording, we compare neurosis, europe and much, much more! danny is a great hang. i love talking to him. enjoy! let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. i am. life is getting back to normal in my post-sxsw world. i'm heading out to play shows with skyrocket this weekend, getting back to practicing with my band, johnny in the ladies room, putting these podcasts together, exercising and eating. normal stuff. anyway, i've been working on some new songs too. that's been fun and totally frustrating. we'll see what happens with these songs.episode 364 is a double-header with brooklyn dream pop/shoegazers, lazyeyes and nashville indie rockers, bad cop. first up, lazyeyes comes in and we have a great conversation about everything... nu-metal, frosted tips, tacos, making music in the big apple and much, much more. then, nashville's bad cop stops by and we have a great conversation about the nashville rock scene, how the new line-up got together, their many e.p.'s, jeffery drag records and much more. both bands are amazing. i highly suggest buying them or checking them out on spotify. i hoe you enjoy getting to know lazyeyes and bad cop. i sure did. let's get down! ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. i am. i ant to tell you guys about an event that we get to be a part of THIS weekend, beats delicious festival sunday march 15th at stonehouse villa in driftwood, tx. doors are at 1:30 pm and bands include, wild adriatic, angela perley, topher mohr and more. there will be local food and beverege vendors set up out there including real ale brewing, genius gin, cornucopia popcorn, simply delicious custom cakes and more. i'll be there interviewing bands for the podcast, so if you come out, say hi. here's the online invite rsvp and we'll see you there!my guest for episode 359 is jared leibowich from one of my favorite new bands here in austin, the zoltars! i came across the zoltars when i was looking for bands to have on during sxsw, when i found out they were from austin, i hit them up and had jared on. they have just released a new self-titled album available on happenin' records. they've done a good amount of touring and are about to hit the road again soon. if you're in austin for sxsw go to and find out where they'll be playing during the festival. i absolutely love their music and i thoroughly enjoyed getting to know jared. i'm sure you will too. let's get down!ciao! -jg
