hello friends! i hope you're all getting your weekend groove on. what ever that means or looks like. things are good here. i saw some music last night. i saw daniel eyes and the vibes then i saw moonpie, julianna sheffield and david' garza! great time. i'm off from skyrocket this weekend. i think i'm just gonna lock myself away and write songs for a couple of days. wish me luck. 
my guests for episode 475 are austin, hip-hop collective, heye minds! they stopped by a few eeks ago to talk about their monthly hip-hop residency called, "sundaze". "sundaze" is put on by solstice live and heye minds. it takes place the last sunday of every month from 10 pm - 2 am at the vulcan gas company on 6th street here in austin. hello friends! i hope you're all getting your love jams together for the big "love day" coming this sunday. what are you doing for valentine's day? i have no idea what i'm doing. zuri and i are going to my aunt christina's birthday party saturday in houston. we'll be coming back that night. maybe we'll go to the iron cactus north for the opening of "soul of a musician series"... the townsend is having a thing with sarah sharp... what are you doing?my guest for episode 463 is hip-hop artist, tank washington! a member of the l.n.s. crew, tank just released his first full-length album, "pain" in january. the record is absolutely brilliant. he lost his father while he was making it and it really informed the record's feel. you can find the album on itunes, spotify, soundcloud and on bandcamp. we have a fantastic conversation about turning loss into productivity and deeper art, being a father, the lns crew, growing up in austin, the current hip-hop scene and much, much more. i hope you enjoy getting to know tank. i sure did. let's get down!ciao! jg

hello friends! i hope this episode of our crazy little podcast finds you happy, healthy and actively making love while you listen to it. i'm doing well. i got to see my pal, paco estrada play last night. he had a record release show last night here in austin. was a great show. the album, bedtime stories is out now. you should go get. plus, i'm on it. i just watched that hbo scientology documentary, "going clear"... what a great movie and a freaky fucking cult. i recommend seeing this guest for episode 365 is the talented and entertaining, laura reed! someone on twitter reached out to laura and me and suggested we do a podcast while she was in town for sxsw, so i checked out her music, thought she was great and invited her to be on the show. we had a great conversation about going from south africa to north carolina, making music and writing nashville, touring with george clinton, working with producer, shannon sanders and much, much more. laura is a powerhouse of talent and energy and i really had a great time getting to know her. i'm sure you will too. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. i'm good, but it's been a crazy week. i started this songwriting game with my friend cory where i have to write a song every day until february 25th. it's pretty crazy, but i've written 5 songs this week! i've also done 6 podcast interviews, played a solo show and i'm playing with SKYROCKET! tonight (fri 1/30/15) at hanover's in pflugerville and in houston at the continental club tomorrow (sat 1/31/15). anyway, i'm glad i'm playing this songwriting game. as soon as i write some good ones, i'll post them on soundcloud and let you guests for episode are austin's premier e.d.m. band, GOBI! this is GOBI's second time on the show. they have a fantastic new album, gold on black ice that comes out february 10th. you can pick up a copy before it comes out at their record release on february 7th at holy mountain in austin, tx. we have a great conversation about the making of gold on black ice, playing edm in austin, how they play shows and much, much more. i have a great time talking to phil and dunny. enjoy!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. things are kinda crazy here today and i guess they will be for a while... i've entered a songwriting game with my friends where we have to write a song every day until february 25th. i wrote one last night and one and a half today. i also did 3 podcast interviews and went to the grocery store. i've had a lot of caffeine and i think you can hear it in the intro of this show. anyway, i'll be playing at gueros in austin tomorrow, wednesday, 1/28/15 at 6 pm and the bluebonnets play at 7. we'll be in the courtyard and the whole thing will be on the radio. come by, check it guests for episode 347 are funk dance party band, t bird and the breaks! they have a new album that comes out today (1/27/15)!!!! it's called harmonizm and it is fucking awesome! if you like funky soul music that makes you feel good, you should buy this album. when momo's was open, we played a lot of shows together and it warms my heart to see their progress. this album, harmonizm, is the culmination of many years of hard work. it's focused. the songs are amazing and it has an overall great vibe. the guys have release shows this week and they're hitting the road for month going to the midwest and west coast find out where they'll be by going to i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends i hope you're all doing well. i hope you're getting prepared for the holidays. i just realized today that i've done nothing about my shopping... i know i'll be buying my christmas gifts at local record stores here in austin. i have a plan. i did it last year and it was pretty cool. i buy music for people that they might not know, but is in their taste range, at local record stores. well, this year, i'm trying to get out to some record stores so that the owners can you what they're known for. today we stop by antone's record store here in austin, tx and talk to musician/co-owner, eve monsees. great chat about the record store that has graced "the drag" since 1987. get out to your local record store and get involved!my guest for episode 333 is the immensely talented singer/songwriter and all-around great hang, bob schneider. this is bob's second appearance on the show. he's started a pledge music campaign for his new album, "king kong" and there's two weeks left for you to give. simply go to bob's pledge music campaign and give. i met bob at an undisclosed location and we talked about everything from our dislike of taylor swift and creed to communicating with just our hearts. yeah. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all getting the same weather we are here in austin today... gorgeous, cool and windy. ah... like a dream come true. fall is here and i love it! so, if you're reading/listening to this the day it comes out, it's my birthday. yeah. i can't believe it. it's my 4th birthday since i've started the show. i'm going to have dinner tonight with my girlfriend, zuri and her sister and my cousin, emily. maybe i'll do something fun during the day like go play putt-putt golf or drive go-karts or go day drinking... who knows. either way, it'll be a fun guest for episode 317 is absolutely brilliant musician, bruce salmon! i've known bruce for over 20 years and i've seen him go from funk/rock guitar player with joe rockhead to day job working father to synth/noise guys for alejandro escovedo to where he is now... he's just released his first solo album, a barrel of monkeys and he's been touring the united states, playing his songs, in various incarnations, for people. i caught up with him while he was in austin and we had a great conversation about where he's been and where he's going. it was a very enlightening conversation with an underlying message of "keeping it real". i hope you enjoy it. i sure did. let's get down!ciao! -jg
