hello friends! i hope life is treating you well. news is pouring in about the president and the first lady being the keynote speakers at sxsw this year. that's pretty exciting for austin. it makes me think what those motorcades will do to enhance the over-the-top sxsw traffic. honestly, i think it's cool that they're coming. i'm finalizing my sxsw schedule... i'm doing some podcasts, hosting a SIMS showcase at the san jose' with awesome bands like, sweet spirit, ian moore and the lossy coils, the bluebonnets and more and i'm doing shows out of town with skyrocket. i'm looking forward to a week of madness. speaking of madness, if you live in austin and you're looking for a way to extend your "sunday funday", rev. merrill wade from st. matthews episcopal church has started "soul of a musician series", at the iron cactus north. rev. wade stopped by to tell us what it's all about. if you'd like to find out more about it go to soul of a musician series on facebook.

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. i had a crazy weekend of shows. hey! speaking of shows, i'm playing a solo show next tuesday, november 17th at the townsend. the show starts at 8 and i go on at 9. there will be a special guest playing from 8-9. i'll post a link on our facebook page when i have all the details. i'm looking for an old drum machine that's reasonably priced and is from the 70's. do you know of one. write me on our facebook page. my guest for episode 434 is the voice of KUTX 98.9 fm in austin, laurie gallardo! this is laurie's second time on the show. we sat down a month or so ago and caught up on her various endeavors including her d.j. shift on KUTX 98.9 monday-thursday 8-11pm, her support of local music and touring bands with her "austin music minute" heard daily on KUTX and "the good music club" which can be found at thegoodmusicclub.com/ and much, much more! laurie has been a great friend and tireless supporter of the podcast and my music career. i have a genuine respect for her. i see her out at a lot of shows and music functions. she's definitely an important part of this crazy austin music scene. i hope you enjoy our conversation as much as i did. let's get down! ciao! -jg

hello and welcome to this unique episode of "how did i get here?". a few weeks ago i went to visit suzanna choffel and her new baby, lulu. we got to talking about continuing to rock once you've entered motherhood. wondering how you balance being an performing/touring/creative artist and a mother... well, we decided to turn it into a podcast. i asked suzanna to put together a group of women she sees as her support team and to co-host the show. we have a wonderful group of extremely talented mothers. savanna welch, jazz mill, raina rose and elizabeth mcqueen share their experiences as moms that rock. we get a great insight into the writing/recording/touring/backstage life with a child. my thanks to suzanna and lulu for putting together the panel of guests and co-hosting. thanks to raina and benny, savanna, elizabeth and jazz. we had a great conversation, passed babies around and laughed. i hope you enjoy our chat. i sure did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all having a fantastic spring experience. i am. today is gorgeous here in austin, tx and i have the windows open and i am letting spring into my apartment, i'm doing some spring cleaning, i'm listening to records i bought on record store day. if you want to see my score on record store day, photos of upcoming guests or get updates on past guests, simply "like" our facebook page and you will be kept up to date on all things "how did i get here?" our guest for episode 371 is musician, radio personality, actor, blogger, wife and mom, amy edwards! amy and i played a show a while back, i thought she was great and i invited her on the podcast. after hearing her music and knowing part of her story, i thought it would be a great conversation with this fearless, creative, soulful, rocker. amy is new to playing music, she didn't start til she was 38. we have a great conversation about how she turned a group of moms learning to be rockstars over wine once a week into playing at the playboy mansion, making records and starting a legitimate solo career all while being a radio personality, blogger, wife and mom. amy is an incredibly strong and interesting woman. i had a great time getting to know her. i'm sure you will too. let's get down! ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you all had a great weekend and you'e feeling good about everything. i'm doing well. i played all weekend. i played on friday and saturday with skyrocket and sunday with john bush and his group of awesome musicians including penny jo pullus, john nelson, glenn mcgregor, landis armstrong, brad houser and seth orrell. great times! i love playing at the one-2-one bar. i'm actually playing there this friday september 19th with skyrocket. come out and rock out with us in this sweet south austin club.my guests for episode 309 are two of my favorite funny men and best pals, charlie hodge and lucas molandes! charlie is hosting a big comedy show tonight at cap city. we talk all about it on the show. anyway, i hang out with thee guys a lot and we do podcast stuff together, so this show is more of just funny dudes hanging out and making each other laugh. i think we need this kind of episode every once in a while. this crazy conversations covers online dating, "i am cumin and i need to be loved", grocery stores, johnny's bagging pet peeves, lucas' sister is super-catholic, charlie wants to start a brick and mortar dating place called "cumin space" and much more insanity. i absolutely love these dudes and i love hanging out with them. i hope you love hanging out with us. let's get down!ciao! -jg
