my guests for episode 471 are chip and erin adams, owners of modern outsider records. the just won "best record label" at the austin music industry awards on monday. they've only been around for five years and have put out records by dana falconberry, quiet company, moving panoramas, the crookes, black pistol fire and many more. they started out with a simple mission: discover and release good music. they've stuck to it and in a time when labels are folding and straning to survive, the've made modern outsider work. find out why they started it and how they make it wok. i hope you enjoy getting to know chip and erin. i sure did. let's get down!

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. before we get to my conversation with ben balmer, i have a quick chat with michelle faires, producer of "honky tonk heaven: the story of the broken spoke" a documentary about the legendary texas honky tonk. they've just started editing and they've started a kickstarter campaign to finish up their movie. michelle gives us an insight to the story, but you can check it out and give at do it!my guest for episode 433 is singer/songwriter, ben balmer! i just happened to see ben a couple of months ago when he opened for aly tadros at a house concert. i was blown away by his songs and his performance, so i asked him to come over for a chat. well, he did and we had a great conversation about his newest album loose lips, sunk ships, bruised hips and boozed lips, touring the u.s. and europe, he played a song live on the show and much, much more. i hope you enjoy getting to know ben as much as i did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you all had an enjoyable halloween weekend. if you live in austin, i hope that you made it through the floods on friday. i had a pretty harrowing 6 1/2 hour trip to houston on friday getting around closed highways etc. i hope all that were affected by the floods are okay. hey gang! tomorrow, tuesday 11/3 at the townsend here in austin, i'll be playing with my rock band, ladyband johnson along with the bluebonnets, eve & the exiles and more. we'll be celebrating dominique davalos' birthday. she plays bass in ladyband johnson and in the bluebonnets and i love her. the shindig starts at 7:30. come out and party on a tuesday!my guest for episode 431 is singer/songwriter/actor and force to be reckoned with, LOLO. you might know her as lauren pritchard star of the hit broadway show, "spring awakening".  she's written the songs for an off broadway play called "songbird". she's just released an e.p., comeback queen on DCD2 records and is currently on "the wilderness politics tour" with andrew mcmahon in the wilderness, new politics and the griswolds. i caught up with LOLO when the tour stopped in austin at emo's last night and we had a great conversation in the backstage courtyard. her e.p. comeback queen is absolutely amazing. and i suggest you go to her website, and see when she's coming to a town near you. i hope you enjoy getting to know LOLO as much as i did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well out there in the world. i want to encourage all of you to head to to record store day tomorrow, saturday, april 18th 2015. we all should do our part in making this business of music work and record store day is a fun way to get involved. i'm going shopping with friends. if you don't know your local record stores, here's a great resource  to finding one in your town, if you buy some good stuff, post a photo to our facebook page also, if you live in austin, tonight, friday, april 17th 2015, my all-girl band, johnny in the ladies room will be playing at threadgills along with jess & the echoes and kendall beard and whiskey rebellion. come out for a great night of music!my guests for episode 370 are london's great americana band, et tu bruce'! these guys were in town for sxsw and we had a chance to sit down and chat. described as "west london meets the west coast", these guys have taken england's bbc-6 radio by storm, left their sweat on the stage in all of london's best clubs, toured the states with the zombies, kept their sanity during the social apocalypse that is sxsw twice and much, much more. i had a great time getting to know these guys. i'm sure you will too. let's get down!ciao! -jg

congratulations to our sponsor, strange brew loungeside for taking "best venue to play", "best club sound" and "best live music venue" in the 2014/2015 austin music poll!hello friends! welcome to the first sxsw show of the season. on sunday, march 15th i got to go to the beats delicious festival at the stonehouse villa in driftwood, texas! i got to watch and talk to wild adriatic, angela perley & the howlin' moons, topher mohr and skinny lister. my friend amy and her crew at beats delicious pulled together a great festival showcasing all these great bands from all over, with local vendors promoting all their wares from make-overs to photo booths, a gin and juice bar, local brewries, food and more. the stonehouse villa was a gorgeous location and we got to do our interviews in the bridal suite. i was joined by kristi olberding who shot some gorgeous photos which i will post on our facebook page. if you'd like to see kristi's work, check out her website i hope you enjoy my conversations with these great bands as much as i did. i had a blast at the festival and i'm looking forward to next year. thanks beats delicious! let's get down!ciao!

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. i'm good. i'm up early, about to go running before it gets to 100 degrees. zuri and i had a great time last night. we went to dinner at some old friends' house for dinner. i saw other old friends. it was so fun. it made me realize that people need to have more dinner parties. it's nice to see old friends and it's nice to have a get together outside of a performance place or a bar. i'd like to thank adam and christy for the lovely dinner and amazing hang. if you're in austin tonight, tuesday, july 29th 2014, come out to strange brew. i'll be opening for the great steve poltz tonight instead of the regular residency show. come out! steve is amazing!my guest for episode 295 is photographer, christopher durst! i met chris a couple of months ago at a photo shoot for "music and mutts". i knew his work and seen a bunch of it online and was a fan already, but getting to know him has been a real pleasure. he's a class act. he's shot everyone from willie nelson to jane's addiction, traveled the world with bands and shot festivals around the world. his experience has been genuinely exciting because he's a real artist and he gets into the heart and soul of his subjects and brings that out in the some of the most beautiful visuals i've seen in a long time. the guy is a true talent. today he's launching a new company, music imagery inc.! it's a revolutionary business model set up to help musicians get the best images without having to pay out of pocket. find out more at i had a great time getting to know christopher. i'm sure you will too. let's get down!ciao! -jg
