hello friends! i hope you're all flying high again! things are going well here at la casa de johnny. i have a great big show for you guys today. before we get to my conversation with moving panoramas, i have a quick chat with michelle faires, producer of "honky tonk heaven: the story of the broken spoke" a documentary about the legendary texas honky tonk. they've just started editing and they've started a kickstarter campaign to finish up their movie. michelle gives us an insight to the story, but you can check it out and give at kickstarter.com/brokenspokefilm do it!my guests for episode 427 are the amazing dreamgaze trio, moving panoramas! their gorgeous new album, one came out earlier this month. you can find one and fin out all about them at movingpanoramas.com leslie and rosie from the band came by a few weeks ago and we had an amazing conversation about leslie's life-changing, traumatic few months, turning heartache and confusion into beautiful art, teaching rosie music and becoming bandmates, fear of numbers, school of rock, shoegaze vs. dreamgaze, the making of one, custom earplugs vs. $1 earplugs and much, much more! leslie's story is harrowing, but what she was able to do musically not only made her feel better but it made the world a more beautiful place and for that i thank her and the rest of the band. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all "in it" this weekend for summer's last stand. yes, this weekend marks the last weekend of summer. fall starts next week and honestly, i'm ready for fall. my morning runs have been hot and humid festivals of sweat. i'm ready for cool, nice fall morning runs. hey! if you live in austin, today, friday, sept 19th 2014 is "danny crooks day"! no shit! my old friend is being honored by the city for his contributions to the music community. there's a party at the roost at 7 with the showing of a documentary and TONS of bands. i'll be playing some songs at 8. if you went to, or played at steamboat, you should come out and say hi to danny. it's gonna be a great show. i'll be coming back into town to play with skyrocket at 10:30 at the one-2-one bar. we don't do too many shows in the city limits... you should come out. do it!!!!my guest for episode 310 is amazing guitar player/singer/songwriter, will knaak! will making his second appearance on the show. he's just released his first solo album, the only open road and it's awesome! the album was produced by guitar hero, jeff plankenhorn and features brannen temple on drums and yoggi on bass. it's a pretty impressive debut album. you might know will as being a sideman for many country bands here in texas. he spends a lot of time on tour and has pretty much his whole life. he started out playing young and was out playing professionally when he was 12 years old! we have a great conversation about his journey, the courage it takes to make the step from sideman to frontman and the delicate balance, touring, working with jeff and much, much more. i am a huge fan of will's both as a player and as a person. you will be too after our conversation. lrt's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. i am. i saw some music last night. i saw dan dyer debuting some new songs at the continental club gallery. his new songs were so different than what i've come to expect from dan. great songs. i'm looking forward to seeing what he does with them. after that i went to see sphynx at the mohawk. what a great show! they played outside and the place was packed. people were all dancing a getting down. there was even a couple of dudes smoking weed behind me. when people bust out the weed, that smell somehow makes the show feel right. they put on a GREAT show and i just love them. i highly suggest checking them out while they're on tour starting next week!my guest for episode 237 is the always entertaining, elizabeth mcqueen making her second appearance on the show. i read her blog last week about playing her last shows with asleep at the wheel and releasing her new e.p., the laziest remix. i thought, with such a gigantic life change going on, maybe we should sit down and catch up. well, we did and it was well worth it. elizabeth came by and talked about everything, her last shows with "the wheel", life off the road, house cleaning, working with the brothers lazaroff, collaborating with talented women, her release show on 1/11 at lambert's in austin, not smoking and much, much more. if you don't know elizabeth before this show, you will love her after you listen to it. please enjoy my talented and entertaining friend, elizabeth mcqueen.ciao! -jg
