how did i get here?

”Johnny Goudie is the Marc Maron of Austin music. The veteran singer/guitarist – best known for fronting early Nineties pop band Mr. Rocket Baby and, later, his major-label rock act, Goudie – stepped up to the microphone with a new intention in 2011 and launched the How Did I Get Here? podcast. Now 840-some episodes in, the hourlong, twice-weekly interview show gives the host a platform to really connect with his Austin music guests, not just on what’s happening in their careers, but also in the shared experience of music appreciation – and that’s where he truly shines.” -The Austin Chronicle 2019

Hello and welcome to How Did I Get Here? From The Vault! Today we go back to episode 88 for a great conversation with rock and roll legend, Hunt Sales (Tin Machine, Iggy Pop, Todd Rundgren) originally released on July 24, 2012! Below are my original notes form the show.

My guest for episode 88 is the great Hunt Sales! Hunt is a rock and roll treasure. Wether he's being the backbone and backbeat of Iggy Pop's "Lust For Life", the backbone, backbeat and personality of Tin Machine (Hunt's band with David Bowie) or the songwriting & drumming lead singer of his newest band, The Hunt Sales Memorial, he's playing with the kind of passion that moves you. or at least, moves me. My friend Bevis (Griffin, who's been a guest on this show), texted me Saturday about havin Hunt on the show. I flipped-out and sad, YES! so, yesterday hunt came over to the apartment and we got to talk. We got to patch-up some weirdness that was lingering between from a record  we worked on over a decade ago and he told me about his journey. From being around his father, Soupy's musician friends, playing his first session at 10 years old, Todd Rundgren at 15, Iggy Pop and David Bowie, working and most of all, staying true to what you do. Hunt is an inspiration. He plays from his heart. He always has. Check out the videos on our facebook page and you'll see what I mean. This conversation inspired me to no end. Thank you, Hunt. ciao, jg

Hello and welcome to How Did I Get Here? From The Vault! Today we go back to episode 395 for a great conversation with Austin's art-rockers, The Octopus Project originally released on July 14, 2015! Below are my original notes form the show.
My guests for episode 395 is one of Austin's most innovative, creative and musically brilliant exports, The Octopus Project! Their score for the film, Kumiko: The Treasure Hunter comes out this week on vinyl. The movie is amazing and the score is absolutely gorgeous. If you're not a vinyl person, you can find it and all of their other releases on iTunes, Spotify and by going to their website,  theoctopusproject.com. You can also find their wealth of videos and other content including handmade, stuffed animals. I had a blast sitting down and getting to know this hyper-creative trio and talking to them about everything, keeping a band together for 16 and staying fresh and relevant, creating visual art including videos, one-of-a-kind merchandise, being a couple in a band, the theremin, finding chords that make you cry, how Juan the engineer won a scavenger hunt that included the band, scoring films and much, much more. Toto, Yvonne and Josh are three of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. They also make amazing music and art. I hope you enjoy getting to know The Octopus Project. I sure did. Let's get down!
