how did i get here?

”Johnny Goudie is the Marc Maron of Austin music. The veteran singer/guitarist – best known for fronting early Nineties pop band Mr. Rocket Baby and, later, his major-label rock act, Goudie – stepped up to the microphone with a new intention in 2011 and launched the How Did I Get Here? podcast. Now 840-some episodes in, the hourlong, twice-weekly interview show gives the host a platform to really connect with his Austin music guests, not just on what’s happening in their careers, but also in the shared experience of music appreciation – and that’s where he truly shines.” -The Austin Chronicle 2019

Hello and welcome to How Did I Get Here? From The Vault! Just like the title says, we'll be digging into our vault from the last 11 years, pulling out an old episode and shining it up for you. Today we go back to episode 4 from August 20, 2011 with legendary drummer, Dony Wynn! Below are my original notes from the show.
In the last four decades Dony Wynn has played drums with Robert Palmer, Dr. John, Brooks & Dunn, Robert Plant and many, many more. He is an extremely inspired and colorful person with a very rich history in this business. I've been friends with Dony for years and i've always wanted to get to sit down and hear just how he got here. Well, I got to! from "growing up" in the extremely fertile New Orleans music scene to moving to Los Angeles with Bobby Kimball (Toto) and getting fired by Larry Graham which lead to a chance meeting with Robert Palmer, the artist with whom he would forge a musical and personal relationship that would last from 1979's "Bad Case Of Loving You" until Robert's untimely death in 2003. We talked for an hour and a half! Find Dony Wynn on Facebook & Instagram

My guest for episode 308 is legendary drummer, Tommy Taylor. I'm sure you've heard Tommy play he's the drummer on the Christopher Cross album with "Ride Like The Wind" and he's played with Eric Johnson for decades. I met Tommy when I was 16 years old. He's always been a great hang and such a great talent. I got to jam with him a lot in the 90's when he played in the "Sunday Monsters" at Steamboat with Stephen Doster and Will Sexton. I've been trying to get Tommy on the show since I started it. I know he started playing in bands here in Austin when he was just a teenager. He ended up playing with Christopher Cross when he was 20, won Grammys. toured the world, played on all the tv shows, went on to play with Eric Johnson, on Spotify alone, songs he's played on have been played over 15 million times.
