Hello friends! I hope you are all safe and healthy. Welcome to episode 900!!!! I can't believe we're actually here. I can't believe it! First, I want to thank you and everyone who has listened to the show. I want to thank all of the artists who have come in and shared their story and made this show worth listening to. Thank you. I have loved doing this show. I have connected with so many artists and been inspired by their music and their stories. I hope you have too.
Since episode 400, we've done a live show for each hundred episodes. Obviously, this was not an option for episode 900, so I put together some snippets from other live shows. What Made Milwaukee Famous' Michael Kincaid explains himself from ep. 15 Live at Momo's, AJ Vallejo talks us through the Vallejo label shuffle from ep 182 Live at Strange Brew, Suzanna Choffel & Nakia talk about being on The Voice from ep. 400 Live from The Townsend, Kathy Valentine talks about the magic of being in a band and winning over an audience from ep. 415 Live at The Townsend, Suzanna Choffel talks about Jem and the Holograms with Nakia and AJ Vallejo from ep. 500 Live at The Townsend, AJ Vallejo and Nakia talk metal and Alabama from ep. 600 Live at The Townsend, Acey Monaro (Go Fever) tells a crazy story about El Paso while Ray Prim, Laurie Gallardo and Nöelle Hampton react to her bad decisions from ep. 800 Live at Cosmic Coffee + Beer.
Again, thank you so much for listening. I'm going to keep on bringing you stories from your favorite artists, introducing you to artists and spreading the word of music as long as I possible can. This show is, has and will always be available for free. However, if you would like to kick in a little something for all of the work, you can contribute here: Johnny's PayPal it is always appreciated. Let's get down!

Hello friends! Austin and everyone in it is currently recovering from SXSW 2017. It was a good week. Sadly, some of my podcasts earlier in the week were cancelled because of all of the flight cancellations from up north due to weather. I still did quite a few. I saw a lot of music. Went on a boat on the most beautiful day of the year and had free drinks and saw bands on Town Lake. I did some running around with friends. I hung out with my stepmom and her friends. Went to Houston Saturday and opened for and played with the BoDeans. That was really fun. So yeah, a good SXSW 2017.
Episode 576 with my guests, The Midnight Stroll was recorded live at the SXSW Podacst Stage Presented by Tunein on Thursday, March 16th! Jonas Wilson and Aaron Behrens from The Midnight Stroll joined me for this special live podcast recording. Their new album, Mohawk Bugaloo, was recorded live in February on the last night of their recent Mohawk residency. We have a great conversation about their unique live show, their writing and recording process, life in the country, art vs. commerce, "bugaloo vs. "boogaloo" their new album and touring plans and much, much more. I hope you enjoy our conversation. I sure did. Let's get down!

Hello friends! I hope you're all doing well. I'm feeling much better than I have been for the last week. I went to the doctor, she prescribed some steroids for my swollen throat and I'm on the mend. I thnk I got overtaken by allergies. After the big cedar allergy thing in January, I stopped taking all of my allergy meds. Bad move on my part. I was feeling so bad, I thought I had strep throat. Luckily I don't. Hey! If you're on Houston tomorrow, Saturday, March 4th, SKYROCKET! will be playing at Fitzgerald's. We go on at 9. Come out and party with us.
My guest for episode 571 is Joe Sparacino otherwise known as, Dr. Joe! Jane Ellen Bryant told me to get to her "single release" show early a couple of weeks ago so that I could catch the opening band, Dr. Joe. Well I did and I loved it. Joe and I talked after the show and I invited him to come on the podcast. They'll be performing 4 times for SXSW just go to drjoemusic.com to find out where and when and to hear some of his live recordings. Dr. Joe and I have a great conversation about growing up an army brat, going to dental school, playing at dueling piano bars in college, making his album with Frenchie Smith and Sean Rollie and much, much more. I hope you enjoy getting to know this great artist, Dr. Joe. I sure did. Let's get down!

Episode 570: Fragile Rock

Tuesday Feb 28, 2017

Tuesday Feb 28, 2017

Hello friends! First off, I have to apologize for not putting out a show on Friday. I actually had an emotional meltdown on Wednesday night which left me exhausted and depressed on Thursday and then i woke up feeling a cold or something coming on on Friday. I played gigs in San Antonio and Houston on Friday and Saturday. I was sick, playing shows and driving all over the place. I spent Sunday sleeping and just laying in bed. Today, I'm going to the Dr. to find out what's going on. Anyway, I'll fill you in on everything on Friday's show.
My guests for episode 570 are Emily Cawood and Ryan Hill from "the world's only emo puppet band", Fragile Rock! Their brand new e.p., Weepy, came out a few weeks ago and they were featured on NPR's "All Songs Considered" earlier this month. They'll be playing a couple of SXSW shows on Monday, March 13th at Spider House and Sidewinder. Go to fragilerockband.com for more info. Emily and Ryan and I have a great conversation about how leader Brently Heilbron came up with the idea of an emo puppet band while going through a divorce, their songwriting process, their odd audition for "America's Got Talent", the real definition of "disco nap", serious improv, how Bowie would have loved them and much, much more. I hope you enjoy getting to know these creative and entertaining people. I sure did. Let's get down!
