Hello friends! I have a double-header for you today! First up, Gray Parsons, who's one-man recording project The Higher Ups have just released it's debut album, the brilliant, Eternal Return. Gray wrote, recorded and produced the album all by himself on his Tascam 388 analog tape recorder (my all time favorite machine) and you can find it The Higher Ups Bandcamp page. Gray and I have a great conversation about making an album by yourself on analog equipment, the biblical imagery on the album, what is a nihilist and more. Next up, Altamesa frontman Evan Charles joins me. Their new album, the dark and dreamy, Idol Frontier drops next Friday, 2/8. Hello friends! Guitarist, Kyle Shutt from The Sword and Doom Side of the Moon is my guest for episode 767! Kyle has just finished his awesome, debut solo album where he plays all the instruments and wrote all the songs. The self-titled album drops on May 6th, but if you live in Austin, you can see him perform the songs on the album at his first solo show with his new band on Monday, January 28th at The 13th Floor. The second year of the Austin Music Foundation's, Artist Development Program, which I am part of, is drawing to a close and ready to celebrate!The NEXT is our way to showcase these hardworking bands. Join us at Antone’s Nightclub on Friday, January 18 for performances from all 7 of our current program participants: Aaron Stephens, Alesia Lani, Kalu & the Electric Joint, Otis Wilkins, Shy Beast, Superfónicos and Western Youth. In this episode of "How Did I Get Here?" I took some snippets from conversations I had with each of these artists on the podcast over the last year giving you the chance to get to know them better. About the Artist Development Program
The Artist Development Program (ADP) was designed by the Austin Music Foundation alongside leading music industry professionals. The intensive seven-month program aims to prepare a select group of emerging Austin artists to take their careers to the next level. ADP artists work closely with a team of mentors through both one-on-one consultations and classroom-focused group sessions, where artists are encouraged to discuss their goals and share ideas with peers.

You might know Alex as the singer of latin funk supergroups, Brownout and Brown Sabbath, the percussionist of Golden Dawn Arkestra, the guitarist for The Sword's Doom Side of the Moon and many, many more. Doom Side of the Moon, a metal tribute to the classic Pink Floyd album at Emo's in Austin on Friday November 30th. We have a great conversation about performing Brown Sabbath for Ozzy himself, discovering the drums, becoming the singer of Brownout and much more! I had a great time getting to know Alex. Hello friends! Anti-folk legend, Hamell On Trial is my guest for episode 739! His latest albums, the layered and timely, Tackle Box produced by Phil "The Butcher" Nicolo on New West Records and the raw and aggressive, The Night Guy At The Apocalypse Profiles Of A Rushing Midnight, recorded entirely on his phone, are both brilliant and available now.
