Hello gang! Prolific artist/musician, Mary Streepy is my guest for episode 715! Mary plays drums, guitar and sings in the shoegaze trio, Queue Queue which also includes Carrie Clark (of the psychedelic noise pop band, Sixteen Deluxe) on guitar/vocals and Claire Hamilton (of chill wave/dream pop band, Paraguay) on bass and vocals. Happy 2018! Austin indie/folk trio, The Wheelwrights are my guests for episode 657! Their debut album, A Forest In Trees is available now where ever you stream or download music. Band members, Seth Grueneberg, Jon-Michael Rogers and Anna Larson came by a few weeks ago and we had a great conversation about how they worked with 12 visual artists and 3 studios/producers to create 13 songs paired with unique pieces of art to make A Forest In Trees, parenting, how they came together as a band, Anna's son's spirit animal is James Brown, unlearning a classical music education and much, much more! hello friends! i hope you're all flying high again! things are going well here at la casa de johnny. i have a great big show for you guys today. before we get to my conversation with moving panoramas, i have a quick chat with michelle faires, producer of "honky tonk heaven: the story of the broken spoke" a documentary about the legendary texas honky tonk. they've just started editing and they've started a kickstarter campaign to finish up their movie. michelle gives us an insight to the story, but you can check it out and give at kickstarter.com/brokenspokefilm do it!my guests for episode 427 are the amazing dreamgaze trio, moving panoramas! their gorgeous new album, one came out earlier this month. you can find one and fin out all about them at movingpanoramas.com leslie and rosie from the band came by a few weeks ago and we had an amazing conversation about leslie's life-changing, traumatic few months, turning heartache and confusion into beautiful art, teaching rosie music and becoming bandmates, fear of numbers, school of rock, shoegaze vs. dreamgaze, the making of one, custom earplugs vs. $1 earplugs and much, much more! leslie's story is harrowing, but what she was able to do musically not only made her feel better but it made the world a more beautiful place and for that i thank her and the rest of the band. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. i hope that if you have come to austin for acl or live in austin, you're enjoying this beautiful weather and avoiding the vicious traffic. if you're anywhere else in the world, i hope it's all good there. i got to spend a great day in the studio yesterday with my friends, gabe rhodes and einar. we recorded a song gabe and i wrote called, "the man who tried to have everything" it turned out really good. we had a blast working together. and we really worked together. everyone was playing stuff and throwing out ideas. i'll let you know when it's mixed and i'll probably put it up on soundcloud. my guests for episode 420 are synth-soul, vocal trio, keeper! their debut, full-length album, moonhigh came out yesterday 10/1! the album is fantastic and available on itunes, spotify and other music outlets. go to keepermusic.com for all of your keeper needs. these ladies are also the austin music foundation's band on the month for october. so these talented and entertaining ladies and i have a great conversation about, growing up in choir, being weird kids, finding their harmony sound, dj culture, a "psychic friends" moment about soul ll soul, how they made their brilliant new album, moonhigh, collaborating with other artists and much, much more! i hope you enjoy getting to know keeper as much as i did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you've had a great week! i have had a pretty eventful and busy week. not all has been awesome, but what in life is awesome all the time? i want to thank the townsend, werd media labs, my guests and everyone who made it out to our live podcast on wednesday. it was a pretty interesting show. people got into it. it wasn't as funny as live ones tend to be, but i've gotten a couple of emails telling me how informative and deep it was. so, look for that next week. if you're in houston tonight, 9/11/15, skyrocket will be playing at the continental club at around 10 pm. come out and party down with us!my guests for episode 413 are k.g., matthew and adam. otherwise known as the pop band, january may! these kids moved here from missouri last year when they released their debut full-length album, trouble made. they have had no problem putting themselves out there and when they have, it's really paid off. they've won grants, gotten to record and perform at full sail university after winning one of their contests and they have teamed up with the women's clothing company, belk to help promote the band and offset expenses so they can stay on the road. these guys have a clear head and they really handle themselves ell in this business. they're also, very sweet and a great hang. i hope you enjoy getting to know january may as much as i did. let's get down! ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope this episode finds you running in slow-motion on a gorgeous summer day through a field of golden wheat into the arms of your lover. i'm doing well. i am getting ready to leave to orlando and play with skyrocket tonight. i'm still recovering from my oral surgery i had on friday. long story, i'll fill you all in on this friday's show. today's show is a special show for me because i went to the werd company podcast studios to try out recording a show in a studio outside of my apartment. well, it was a tremendous success! engineer, juan alsina, (who you'll get to know in the show) did a fabulous job of recording the show and everyone there was totally top-notch, pro. click on the link above if you're looking to find a place to record a podcast. their rates are totally reasonable and i think the show sounds better than ever. thank you, werd!my guests for episode 395 is one of austin's most innovative, creative and musically brilliant exports, the octopus project! their score for the film, kumiko: the treasure hunter comes out this week on vinyl. the movie is amazing and the score is absolutely gorgeous. if you're not a vinyl person, you can find it and all of their other releases on itunes, spotify and by going to their website,  theoctopusproject.com. you can also find their wealth of videos and other content including handmade, stuffed animals. i had a blast sitting down and getting to know this hyper-creative trio and talking to them about everything, keeping a band together for 16 and staying fresh and relevant, creating visual art including videos, one-of-a-kind merchandise, being a couple in a band, the theremin, finding chords that make you cry, how juan the engineer won a scavenger hunt that included the band, scoring films and much, much more. toto, yvonne and josh are three of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. they also make amazing music and art. i hope you enjoy getting to know the octopus project. i sure did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all out there walking on sunshine this summer. i'm good... well, not good. i'm anxious because i have to go to the dentist today to have tooth pulled and to put in an implant post. sounds freaky, right? jeez. it stresses me out to be out of it and in pain and just confined to my apartment. all of those thoughts give me anxiety. hopefully, it won't be bad. i'm no stranger to the dentist, but i still get psyched out by that shit. at least they're nice. wish me luck.my guests for episode 394 are dream pop, shoe-gazer, rock trio, migrant kids! they've just put out a new single, "thread", produced by bright light social hour they're incredibly cool guys who make really beautiful and powerful music. they stopped by a couple of weeks ago and we had a great chat about their sound, how they make music as a trio, playing bass and drums at the same time, not forgetting where you and your people came from, working with bright light social hour and much, much more. i had a great time getting to know migrant kid, i'm sure you will too. let's get down! ciao! -jg
