hello friends! i hope you're all safe and dry where ever you are. i'm well. luckily, the floods did not affect my neighborhood. my thoughts and prayers go out to all that were affected by this awful weather we've had. there are a lot of ways to help. here in austin, there are benefits, donations drop-offs and more. if you know of any way that people can help please share it on our "how did i get here?" facebook page  let's spread the word, get involved and help out.my guest for episode 382 is dallas pop artist, LEV! hello my friends! i hope you're all doing well. i just got some horrible news that there is an "allergy tsunami" coming. is that sensationalism or am i in trouble for the coming months and according to the news, coming years as well. yuk! i just got on flonase a month ago. it seems to be working. how do you control your allergies? my guest for episode 376 is one of austin's best, most innovative and entertaining musicians, a.j. vinent! he's just joined austin's hard rock heroes, scorpion child! you might also know aj from his time as the keyboard player for the bright light social hour, or from his insane solo shows. he's won best keyboard player in the austin chronicle music awards. he's got solo music out and it's awesome you can hear it at ajvincent.com. we have a fantastic conversation about  being born and raised in austin, cutting his teeth in a metal/hardcore/indie rock band in high school called, poor man's opera, hearing pink floyd, boston, led zeppelin and tower of power all in one day, we discuss our idea for "speedos" the woman's answer to "hooters", people buy him leslie cabinets, keyboards, joining scorpion child and much, much more. i hope you enjoy getting to know aj. i sure did. let's get down!

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. i'm good, but it's been a crazy week. i started this songwriting game with my friend cory where i have to write a song every day until february 25th. it's pretty crazy, but i've written 5 songs this week! i've also done 6 podcast interviews, played a solo show and i'm playing with SKYROCKET! tonight (fri 1/30/15) at hanover's in pflugerville and in houston at the continental club tomorrow (sat 1/31/15). anyway, i'm glad i'm playing this songwriting game. as soon as i write some good ones, i'll post them on soundcloud and let you know.my guests for episode are austin's premier e.d.m. band, GOBI! this is GOBI's second time on the show. they have a fantastic new album, gold on black ice that comes out february 10th. you can pick up a copy before it comes out at their record release on february 7th at holy mountain in austin, tx. we have a great conversation about the making of gold on black ice, playing edm in austin, how they play shows and much, much more. i have a great time talking to phil and dunny. enjoy!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all getting the same weather we are here in austin today... gorgeous, cool and windy. ah... like a dream come true. fall is here and i love it! so, if you're reading/listening to this the day it comes out, it's my birthday. yeah. i can't believe it. it's my 4th birthday since i've started the show. i'm going to have dinner tonight with my girlfriend, zuri and her sister and my cousin, emily. maybe i'll do something fun during the day like go play putt-putt golf or drive go-karts or go day drinking... who knows. either way, it'll be a fun day.my guest for episode 317 is absolutely brilliant musician, bruce salmon! i've known bruce for over 20 years and i've seen him go from funk/rock guitar player with joe rockhead to day job working father to synth/noise guys for alejandro escovedo to where he is now... he's just released his first solo album, a barrel of monkeys and he's been touring the united states, playing his songs, in various incarnations, for people. i caught up with him while he was in austin and we had a great conversation about where he's been and where he's going. it was a very enlightening conversation with an underlying message of "keeping it real". i hope you enjoy it. i sure did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i think my long internet wireless router nightmare will be coming to a close soon. time-warner is coming on saturday to fix my problem. until then, i'll be traveling and playing shows. today i'm headed to scottsdale, arizona for a show with SKYROCKET!. tomorrow, we'll be flying to houston for another show and then home on friday afternoon. we have a good time traveling together. check out my instagram for photos of the trip if that's something you're into. my guest for episode 315 is frontman extraordinaire, tony park from the band, three:33! some of you may know tony from his old band and my old friends, pushmonkey. i've known tony for over 20 years and i've seen him play shows at co-op house parties in '92 to seeing sharing a weekly residency with his band, pushmonkey and seeing them open for kiss, to opening for them on their major-label record release tour. in all that time though, i've never gotten to just sit down and talk o tony for an extended period of time. we got to a couple of weeks ago and it was awesome!  i'm looking forward to more hangs with this amazingly talented and super-sweet dude. enjoy our conversation. i did. let's get down!ciao!- jg

hello friends! i'm just waking up to some crazy reports of flash flooding overnight here in austin. i'm gonna go survey the damage when i go running in a bit. apparently, there was SEVEN inches of rain on the east side where i live. anyway, i hope you guys are all doing well wherever you are.  i want to remind you guys that my tuesday night residency at strange brew in austin continues this coming tuesday, 7/22. i have great guests who have both been on the show, jason blum and salim nourallah. here's the facebook event for it https://www.facebook.com/events/1455990667987885/ i think all of my guests have been on the podcast... ha ha. am i really just realizing that now?episode 292 is a double-header! first up, pop group, GOBI (i'm wearing the shirt they gave me as i'm writing this. thanks guys!). there's not much dance/pop music going on in austin, but i'm happy to report that what is happening is great! the guys from GOBI stopped by a couple of weeks ago and we chatted about what they do, what they're up to and the release show they're having for their single, "born to dance" at stubb's in austin on july 25th. great guys, great conversation. our next guest is sara houser from the rock band, löwin. sara has been on the show before with her old band, the couch, but they have since split up and she has narrowed her focus, written some great songs, put a great band together and is out there kicking ass as we speak. they're actually playing a show TONIGHT friday, july 18th at the mohawk in austin, tx. anyway, sara and i have a great conversation about her journey and the new band, löwin. i had a great time talking to these two bands and it's nice to know that there is such diversity in this crazy little music scene. let's get down!ciao!
