Episode 123: Gurf Morlix

Tuesday Nov 27, 2012

Tuesday Nov 27, 2012

today's show is brought to you by, "austin christmas". a new christmas album from same sky productions. available at http://www.same-sky.com/
hello everyone! i hope you had a great thanksgiving. i did. i went to houston with my cousin megan and we had thanksgiving with our family. it was awesome! friday night i played at the house of blues in houston with skyrocket. and saturday here in austin. all in all, it was a great holiday. i even went to the mall on saturday and got in and out without a problem or much difficulty. so, whatever madness happens on "black friday" does not happen on the saturday after.
my guest for episode 123 is the extraordinarily talented musician/singer/songwriter/producer, gurf morlix. you might know gurf from his work with such luminaries as, lucinda williams, warren zevon, ian mclagan (episode 105), patty griffin, michael penn and many, many more. he's worked as sideman, producer, and singer/songwriter putting out his own albums and touring behind them solo. i have always been a fan of gurf and his work. so i was really excited to go out to his home studio to sit down and talk to him. it was even better than i thought. gurf is a gracious and humble artist as well as a gentle and thoughtful man. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did.

when was the last time you heard blackout by the scorpions?
hello everyone! i hope you're doing well. i am very excited because later today, i'm going to get some new pots and pans, a spice rack and some knives. yes, i'm going to start cooking. a long time ago, i was the cook. when i was married, i made dinner. i picked up a couple of cooking magazines with lots o recipes in them when i was at the grocery store yesterday. i also picked up the scorpions' album, blackout, for just $5! keep your eyes open when you're at the grocery store, there are some good deals there! hey! if you have any great recipes, send them to me. please. thank you.
my guest for episode 114 is the super-talented and very sweet, elijah ford. he's just released a new album, elijah ford and the bloom, ashes. it's the second solo effort from elijah and explores more of his pop/rock side. elijah told about making the album, growing up in rock and roll (his father is marc ford from the black crowes), playing in his dad's band, marc ford fuzz machine, then going on to play with ryan bingham, being in the movie, "crazy heart", winning an oscar and a grammy, endless touring then coming home, making solo albums and getting engaged. the whole time, he's been an inspired artist and a grounded human being. he's really cool. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i sure did.
