Hello friends! I hope you all had a great weekend. Quiet Company has a gorgeous new e.p., Your Husband The Ghost, dropping this Friday, August 18th! Quiet Company's Taylor Muse and Your Husband The Ghost producer, Frenchie Smith are my guests on the show today! This is the band's second e.p. released this year. The brilliant, 3-song, It's Not Attractive And It Changes Nothing came out in March. You can find their music, release show show dates and all things Quiet Company at quietcompanymusic.com. Taylor and Frenchie have both been on the show several times and are both really good friends of mine, so it was a treat to sit down and talk all things, Your Husband The Ghost, the trouble with meeting your idols, recording intimate vocals in an intimate environment, ugly-crying while writing sad songs about divorce, out love for Buttercup and Joe Reyes and much, much more! I think the world of both of these guys as artists and people and I hope you enjoy our conversation. I sure did. Let's get down!

Hello friends! My guests for episode 615 are Sara Houser and Michael Sanders from the band, Löwin! Sara has been on the show a few times over the years, but they've taken a step back from playing every show they can and started focusing on releasing a string of singles as they define and redifine who they are as a band. The latest in that group is the brilliant summer single, "Sloop", a poppier offering which follows on the heels of the more rock feeling, "Say Say". Both are great songs and both explore the depth of a band that's always growing and always reaching for something more. You can find all things Löwin at lowinband.com. I have a great conversation with Sara and Michael about everything from the band's songwriting and recording process, to the story about Michael getting robbed and shot on his way home from a show during SXSW a few months ago. I really loved getting to know Sara and Michael. I'm sure you will too. Let's get down!

Hello friends! I hope you all had a great Easter weekend or a good Passover or just a great weekend. I had good weekend. I played a couple of shows with SKYROCKET!, went to Waco on easter Sunday and met my aunt and her partner at probably the worst Mexican restaurant in America. I used to eat at the ones in Houston when I was a kid and I loved them, but this one in Waco was "the suck". Anyway, I had a great day with those ladies. We drove around Waco, had some drinks at a pub and caught up. It was a nice Easter.

Hello friends! Austin and everyone in it is currently recovering from SXSW 2017. It was a good week. Sadly, some of my podcasts earlier in the week were cancelled because of all of the flight cancellations from up north due to weather. I still did quite a few. I saw a lot of music. Went on a boat on the most beautiful day of the year and had free drinks and saw bands on Town Lake. I did some running around with friends. I hung out with my stepmom and her friends. Went to Houston Saturday and opened for and played with the BoDeans. That was really fun. So yeah, a good SXSW 2017.

Hello friends! I hope you're all having a decent Valentine's Day. I have no plans. I don't want to participate in a day that magnifies my relationship short-comings and loneliness. However, it's going to be happening al around me today, so I should just stay in. I DID just hit an all-time low a little while ago, My grandma called to wish me a happy Valentine's Day. Now, I know that's sweet, but there is a level of sadness to knowing that she woke up this morning thinking, "No one is going to wish Johnny a happy Valentine's Day today. I better do it, so that he knows someone loves him". Happy Valentine's Day!

Episode 565: Sphynx #5

Tuesday Feb 07, 2017

Tuesday Feb 07, 2017

Hello friends! I hope you're all holding up in this crazy time of extreme insanity. On one hand, it seems like the world is falling apart and on the other, it seems like everything is fine and the news is trying to freak us out 24 hours a day. I went to lake Charles, LA with SKYROCKET! on Saturday and realized that when people put on costumes, drink heavily and let themselves give-in to the joy of music and dancing and celebrating being alive, the insanity that we face on a day-to-day basis, falls away like a bad dream. Of course, it's always there waiting for you when you wake up the next day hungover and wishing everything would just stop.
Cory, Aaron and Todd, better known as the band, Sphynx return to the show for episode 565! Their epic new e.p., Floppy Disco comes out this Friday February 10th. Their playing an e.p. release show in Austin next Thursday, February 16th at Stubb's. Find out more on when they're coming to a town near you or how to get their music by going to sphynxmuxic.com. Sphynx is one of my favorite bands and some of my favorite people. I hope you enjoy our copnversation. I sure did. Let's get down!
