hello friends! i hope you've voted and feel good about the decision you've made as to who will be our leaders. just remember, if it ends up terrible, it's all your fault. just kidding. i hope you're all doing well. i am. i have gotten a slow start with this podcast because i just got behind. that happens. i had a good weekend in houston playing shows with skyrocket and hanging out with my family. this week we're home. we only have one skyrocket show which is this saturday, at hanovers in pflugerville. if you live in the north austin area, come out and experience the madness.my guest for episode 323 is the amazing drummer, ed jarusinsky! you might know ed from him playing with robyn ludwick, kevin mckinney, wrenfro and many, many more. i've known ed for a few years but not very well so i was excited to sit down and have a long talk with him. boy did we have a long talk about everything from a 70's kiss concert on hbo, growing up in conneticut, getting into metal, prog and jazz, the university of north texas, moving to austin and navigating the scene and much, much more. i had a great time getting to know ed. i'm sure you will too. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all getting the same weather we are here in austin today... gorgeous, cool and windy. ah... like a dream come true. fall is here and i love it! so, if you're reading/listening to this the day it comes out, it's my birthday. yeah. i can't believe it. it's my 4th birthday since i've started the show. i'm going to have dinner tonight with my girlfriend, zuri and her sister and my cousin, emily. maybe i'll do something fun during the day like go play putt-putt golf or drive go-karts or go day drinking... who knows. either way, it'll be a fun day.my guest for episode 317 is absolutely brilliant musician, bruce salmon! i've known bruce for over 20 years and i've seen him go from funk/rock guitar player with joe rockhead to day job working father to synth/noise guys for alejandro escovedo to where he is now... he's just released his first solo album, a barrel of monkeys and he's been touring the united states, playing his songs, in various incarnations, for people. i caught up with him while he was in austin and we had a great conversation about where he's been and where he's going. it was a very enlightening conversation with an underlying message of "keeping it real". i hope you enjoy it. i sure did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! sorry about the intro to this show. i've been suffering from allergies and some days the medicine works and other days, i'm just living in a cloud. today is one of those days... so, rocktober is here! the austin city limits festival is in town, it's not as hot as it was a couple of weeks ago, my birthday is coming up pretty soon and i'm into it! how are you? if you live in pflugerville and you're not participating in the acl activities, SKYROCKET! will be playing at hanover's in tonight, friday, october 3rd. other than that, i'm heading out of town tomorrow with to play a show in hunt, tx. should be interesting. my guest for episode 314 is drummer/percussionist and now frontman of his very own band, john bush!!! you might know john from edie brickell and the new bohemians, critters buggin', the small stars, the greezy wheels and many other bands. i've met him over the years and got to jam with his all-star band at the one-2-one bar a couple of weeks ago, but i've never gotten to sit down and get to know him. well, a couple of weeks ago he came by the apartment and we took care of that. i hope you enjoy getting to know the incredibly talented and the incredibly cool, john bush. i did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i'm just waking up to some crazy reports of flash flooding overnight here in austin. i'm gonna go survey the damage when i go running in a bit. apparently, there was SEVEN inches of rain on the east side where i live. anyway, i hope you guys are all doing well wherever you are.  i want to remind you guys that my tuesday night residency at strange brew in austin continues this coming tuesday, 7/22. i have great guests who have both been on the show, jason blum and salim nourallah. here's the facebook event for it https://www.facebook.com/events/1455990667987885/ i think all of my guests have been on the podcast... ha ha. am i really just realizing that now?episode 292 is a double-header! first up, pop group, GOBI (i'm wearing the shirt they gave me as i'm writing this. thanks guys!). there's not much dance/pop music going on in austin, but i'm happy to report that what is happening is great! the guys from GOBI stopped by a couple of weeks ago and we chatted about what they do, what they're up to and the release show they're having for their single, "born to dance" at stubb's in austin on july 25th. great guys, great conversation. our next guest is sara houser from the rock band, löwin. sara has been on the show before with her old band, the couch, but they have since split up and she has narrowed her focus, written some great songs, put a great band together and is out there kicking ass as we speak. they're actually playing a show TONIGHT friday, july 18th at the mohawk in austin, tx. anyway, sara and i have a great conversation about her journey and the new band, löwin. i had a great time talking to these two bands and it's nice to know that there is such diversity in this crazy little music scene. let's get down!ciao!

hello universal soldiers! i hope you're all living the american dream. i'm good. i played with skyrocket last night at this place called, the roost. it was good. sometimes it just takes us being together and making each other laugh to make it a good show. we're lucky like that. i'm starting a residency this coming tuesday 7/1 at strange brew in austin, tx. i'll be playing every tuesday in july and august while my friend, jeff plankenhorn, is on vacation. it's called, "johnny goudie and friends". i'll have one person playing a 30 minute set before me, then i'll join them for their last song. after that song, they'll leave the stage and i'll stay up and play my set. then i'll be joined by the last person for my last song and i'll leave the stage and that person will play their set. i'm trying to make it a seamless show which should be fun for the audience. my guests on tuesday will be joseph king and jeremy nail. here's the event page https://www.facebook.com/events/1470709166502528/my guest for episode 286 is the phenomenally talented guitar player, angus clark! angus is friend of mine i met through playing with song division, but you might know his from trans siberian orchestra, "rock of ages" on broadway, daredevil squadron or any of his instructional videos on youtube. needless to say, he's an accomplished player. i met up with angus when i was in new york a few weeks ago. he came to my hotel room in brooklyn and we talked about everything, growing up in new york city, finding david gilmore, bending strings in tune, touring with kitaro, the amount of production involved in a trans siberian orchestra tour and much, much more. i had a great time getting to know angus. i'm sure you will too. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. i am getting it together to leave to new york at 6 am for a couple of shows with SKYROCKET! and while i'm there, i'll be doing a couple of podcasts which you'll be hearing soon. anyway, if you're in nyc, come out to the hill country bar b que in manhattan and see SKYROCKET! saturday, june 7th at 9pm. also, while i'm on the promo train, come out to strange brew in austin, tx on tuesday june 17th where we will be recording a live "how did i get here? podcast with our very special guests, funny man charlie hodge, singer/songwriter graham wilkinson and the amazing band, sphynx! there's no cover and a good time will be had by all. speaking of live podcasts from strange brew...my guests for episode 280 "live at strange brew 2" are trish murphy, jazz mills, elizabeth mcqueen and suzanna choffel! we did this live this past tuesday and we had a blast. we heard a childhood radio recording from trish and her siblings from when she was 5 years old, we found out jazz mill has gotten into managing bands, we found out that elizabeth mcqueen has started several bands and we found out that suzanna choffel made her pledge music video with my ex-wife. awkward? listen and find out as i get to the bottom of things like "frenemies" etc. we had a great time. thanks to everyone who came out and thank you to the ladies for making this a great conversation. let's get down!ciao! -jg
