hello friends! i hope you're all keeping warm wherever you are. it's freezing here in austin. i have spent the day running around and rebuilding my pedal board. if you're not a guitar player, it probably doesn't sound terribly exciting. if you are a guitar player, you feel my excitement. i have a pedals just strewn around for the last couple of years since i dismantled my last pedal board. anyway, i've got all the stuff now and after i write this, i'm going to get busy putting it together. rock on, bitches!!!!my guest for episode 326 is the amazing singing, songwriting, guitar player, matt giles! matt has been playing with quite a few people here in austin since the 90's. his most recent project, the drakes, plays every tuesday at the one-2-one bar here in austin, tx. he also is a guitar player for many folks here in town like, amanda pearcy, woodboss, penny jo pullus, the stir and many more. i got to see the drakes a couple of week ago and i loved it. i hope you enjoy getting to know matt giles. i did. let's get down!ciao! -jgciao! -jg

hello chosen people of podcast land! i hope you're all doing well and settling into fall. maybe you've already had the first fire of the season... the holidays are coming and i hope you're prepared. maybe you've made your plans. i think i've made mine. i'm not going to thanksgiving with my family like normally do. sadly, shows have prevented that from happening this year. oh well. i'l have christmas with the family. hey! i want to let you now that one of our favorite guests and one of my dear friends, suzanna choffel has a pledge music campaign and it's coming to a close in 6 days. you can help her put that album out by going to her pledge music campaign page and getting involved with her guest for episode 325 is rocker, jason mcmaster! jason is making his second appearance on the show. you might know jason from his many, many bands including, watchtower, dangerous toys, gahdzilla motor company, broken teeth, evil united and many, many more. his band, evil united just put out a fantastic new album, honored by fire. he's been putting out hard rock for four decades and he's recently released a single called, "xmas time" that is a total departure from what we know jason for. he's a great artist with a ton of musical output and he's a really sweet guy and i've enjoyed his friendship for over 20 years now. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i did. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you've voted and feel good about the decision you've made as to who will be our leaders. just remember, if it ends up terrible, it's all your fault. just kidding. i hope you're all doing well. i am. i have gotten a slow start with this podcast because i just got behind. that happens. i had a good weekend in houston playing shows with skyrocket and hanging out with my family. this week we're home. we only have one skyrocket show which is this saturday, at hanovers in pflugerville. if you live in the north austin area, come out and experience the guest for episode 323 is the amazing drummer, ed jarusinsky! you might know ed from him playing with robyn ludwick, kevin mckinney, wrenfro and many, many more. i've known ed for a few years but not very well so i was excited to sit down and have a long talk with him. boy did we have a long talk about everything from a 70's kiss concert on hbo, growing up in conneticut, getting into metal, prog and jazz, the university of north texas, moving to austin and navigating the scene and much, much more. i had a great time getting to know ed. i'm sure you will too. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello universal soldiers! i hope you're all living the american dream. i'm good. i played with skyrocket last night at this place called, the roost. it was good. sometimes it just takes us being together and making each other laugh to make it a good show. we're lucky like that. i'm starting a residency this coming tuesday 7/1 at strange brew in austin, tx. i'll be playing every tuesday in july and august while my friend, jeff plankenhorn, is on vacation. it's called, "johnny goudie and friends". i'll have one person playing a 30 minute set before me, then i'll join them for their last song. after that song, they'll leave the stage and i'll stay up and play my set. then i'll be joined by the last person for my last song and i'll leave the stage and that person will play their set. i'm trying to make it a seamless show which should be fun for the audience. my guests on tuesday will be joseph king and jeremy nail. here's the event page guest for episode 286 is the phenomenally talented guitar player, angus clark! angus is friend of mine i met through playing with song division, but you might know his from trans siberian orchestra, "rock of ages" on broadway, daredevil squadron or any of his instructional videos on youtube. needless to say, he's an accomplished player. i met up with angus when i was in new york a few weeks ago. he came to my hotel room in brooklyn and we talked about everything, growing up in new york city, finding david gilmore, bending strings in tune, touring with kitaro, the amount of production involved in a trans siberian orchestra tour and much, much more. i had a great time getting to know angus. i'm sure you will too. let's get down!ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you all had a wonderful passover or record store day or easter or earth day or 4/20 day. a lot of celebrating over the last week. i got some good record store day records... jay-z the black album, ume monuments and a couple of days earlier i got kiss alive and a laura nyro album that i heard about while listening to the paul stanley autobiography. good scores! the record stores were full. i saw my friend eve who owns antone's records at end of an ear records, so there was a spirit of solidarity among the record store owners. what a magical day. did you get anything?my guest for episode 267 is one of my favorite comics and one of my favorite people to talk to, john tole! i met john a couple of years ago after one of the "monkeyshine mondays" shows and we hit it off. so, i had john on the podcast over a year ago but i accidentally deleted it before i could put it out. i've always felt terrible about that. luckily, we made up for it with this conversation. john is an amazing comic, a prolific podcaster, he has 4256 productions where he puts out 4 podcasts, "disrupt the illusion", "after the illusion", "cart path diem" and "take it under advisement". he's always on the road and you can find out when he's coming to your town and what ever else you need to know about john tole at i hope you enjoy our crazy conversation. i sure did. ladies and gentlemen, john tole.ciao! -jg

hello my friends! welcome to the "extra show" this week. we'll be putting out three shows this week and next week as a celebration of having a lot of shows in the can. i spent the day rehearsing with SKYROCKET! yesterday. i can't believe that we get along like we do after we have been playing together for so long. i started playing with them on valentine's day 2002. we didn't have the schedule that we have now until like 2006 or 2007. it's kinda fuzzy as to when this became full-time. but it's nice to know that i love my friends and it's fun to hang out and play with them.episode 265 is a triple-header recorded during sxsw 2014! first up, we have the crookes from sheffield, uk. their new album, soapbox came out tuesday, 4/15/14 on modern outsider records. we have a great conversation about their journey as a band, recording in italy, touring europe, sheffield's rich musical history and much more. next up is danish rock trio, baby in vain! i had no idea how young these ladies were when i heard them. they're absolutely amazing and we have a great talk on street corner about their plans for world domination. last, but not least, we have brooklyn's own dead stars. we talk about the band's self-released e.p.'s, the chaos that is sxsw and their new e.p. all great conversations. i hope you enjoy them as much as i did. ciao! -jg
