hello beautiful people! i hope the world is treating you right today. things are good here. i'm up early this morning getting my shit together to go to dallas in a couple of hours for a gig with some friends in the song division group. we'll be heading right back after we finish tonight. it's gonna be a long day, but it's a good time with some good friends. i fell on my thumb the other night. it's not broken, but it's swollen, purple and sore. i've got it in a brace. it's weird but i can still type. look out people! i've got something to say.episode 258 is up and it's a double-header! first up is bp fallon. his career in the music business started with interviewing john and yoko during their bed-in in amsterdam, he then became the "weed tester" for paul mccartney, was the publicist for t-rex, led zeppelin, thin lizzy and more, he's a dj, a best selling author, a photographer and much, much more. last year, with his band, bp fallon and the bandits, he released, still legal. an amazing album with a star-studded band. we caught up during sxsw and had a great chat about it all. our second conversation is with new york's trumpeter swan. songwriter, drew patrizi and producer/guitarist, tom beaujor stopped by my apartment during sxsw and we had a great talk about their new album, the magnitude of now and how they made it. we also talked about how they're navigating this new music business as musicians, songwriters and producers. i had a great time getting to know all of these guys. i bet you will too. ciao! -jg

hello my friends! i hope you're all doing well. i have been putting together all of my sxsw shows and let me tell ya, there are a lot. i have been pleasantly surprised that so many turned out so good. i was worried that i was doing to many in a row. that they were too short. that the places i was were too noisy. the only thing that turned out true is that some places were just so noisy and there were too many distractions to really have a focused conversation. but they turned out good. some are even great! look forward to these shows coming out over the next month. today's episode is my first one. enjoy!episode 257 is a double-header of returning guests! first up is lauren larson from ume. lauren was on a couple of years ago and since her last appearance the band has played over 200 shows in the u.s. and europe, been in tons of magazines including guitar world and rolling stone, they've just released a new album called monuments and they're heading out on a midwest/west coast tour on 3/23! we have a great conversation. next up is my dear old friend, joseph king who is making his 4th appearance on the show! last we heard from him, he was starting a kickstarter campaign to fund his debut solo album. well, it got funded and joseph released his beautiful new album, wanderlusting on march 5th. came to austin to showcase for sxsw and he brought his new band by the apartment and i got to catch up with joseph and get to know the talented kayce and will. we had a great talk! i hope you enjoy these conversations as much i did. ciao! -jg

hello munchkins! i hope you're all happy and healthy little munchkins. i am well. i played a show last night with some old friends here in austin. it was a lot of fun. the couple that had "the best blind audition ever" on the voice were there. i didn't talk to them. i thought they butchered that beatles song. plus, i feel like i live in a different world than mainstream america. i got weirded out when carson daily called "i've just seen a face" an obscure beatles song. really? i thought "old brown shoe" was slightly obscure, but not something off of rubber soul. i never wanna be all like, "what happened to the world i live in?", but it happens sometimes. my guests for episode 251 are dreamy and gorgeous, she sir! i invited these guys over when i heard a track from their new album, go guitars, which just came out this week and fell in love with their sound. i love their lush guitars and dreamy vocals. jeremy and russell from the band stopped by for a chat and i got to know them and how they work. we have a great conversation. they're great guys in a great band who just released a beautiful album. i suggest you go buy it now. ciao! -jg

hello friends of nature and rock and roll! i hope you're all doing well. i am. i've had a good week so far and it's only tuesday. i have a solo show this week on thursday 2/27 at stubb's in austin, tx. i'll be playing a songwriter in the round with ryan holley, paco estrada and a few other folks. should be fun. if you are in houston, skyrocket will be playing there on friday 2/28 at rockefeller hall. i believe that place is going to be closing in the next few months so, if you like seeing us there, which i know many people do, we're only doing two more shows there before it closes down. i know. it's sad. i saw a lot of great shows there... dr. john, the bodeans, the neville bros. the ohio players and many, many more. goodbye rockefeller hall. you had a great run!my guest for episode 250 is aryn jonanthan black from the full-throttle rock and roll band, scorpion child! you might have seen him on VH1's that metal show this past saturday (2/22/14). that show also named their debut, self-titled album as one of the top 5 albums of 2013. the album is amazing and the rock world and european rock world have embraced the band and they're returning to the u.k. next month. if you live there look them up. i've known aryn for a few years, he's always seemed like a real rockstar to me and he is. he's a genuine 24 carrot rocker. so is scorpion child. i hope you enjoy my conversation with aryn. i did! ciao! -jg

hello friends! i hope you're all doing well. i am. i've been getting ready for sxsw. booking a lot of interviews, trying to find some cool parties and generally listening to a lot of the bands i'll be talking to that week. it's just around the corner. i was on the hodgecast this week. i was a panel guest along with my friend, john tole and my new friend, johanna. i go on charlie's show about twice a month. it's always very fun and funny, but this one has some extra grease. the show is normally an hour, but we made this one go for 1:40. if you're a podcast fan and like me, you like when people riff on subjects until the giggles set in, this is the episode for you. here's a link http://www.charliehodgeshow.com/podcast/hodgecast-episode-418-cool-water/my guest for episode 249 is the amazingly talented and super cool, dana falconberry! i met dana a few months ago at an elliot smith tribute. she was very talented, humble and funny. i picked up her album, leelanau (on vinyl) and absolutely fell in love with it. her voice and her writing are absolutely superb. her lyrics paint a picture that can evoke the deepest feelings of longing and warmth. anyway, we finally got together and had our talk for the show and it was great! dana is a hyper-creative force with a real genuine heart. i hope you enjoy getting to know her. i sure did.ciao! -jg

"i'm an overnight sensation... it was just a really long night."hello lovers! happy valentine's day. is valentine's day real? it's never been a thing for me. of course, no one ever sends me flowers, chocolates or takes me to a fancy dinner and finally puts in the work for my sex and/or love. so basically, it's just friday to me. i saw erin ivey's record release show last night at the belmont here in austin. what a great show! her new cd/dvd whisper of the moon is an incredible live recording with erin and the tosca string quartet. i recommend it! i'm getting my shit together to head out of town a little later today for some weekend shows with SKYROCKET!. i'm driving alone this weekend, so i'm looking for some good podcasts and maybe and audiobook. my guest for episode 247 is the amazingly talented and incredibly cool, bobby landgraf a.k.a. bobby rock! i've known bobby for a long time and always thought the world of him as both a musician and a dude. i was a huge fan of his band, gahdzilla motor company. anyway, bobby's band, honky is always working and now he's joined the band down which is fronted by pantera's phil anselmo. bobby's story is very real and ultimately very triumphant. his humility and focus on his work has really paid off for him. that makes me proud. i hope you enjoy my conversation with bobby. i did.ciao! -jg
