hello friends! i hope this episode finds you well. i am getting ready to write a song with sarah sharp this morning. that's exciting. my car is in the shop because something's wrong with the brakes, i have rats in my apartment because the flooding last week, but i'm doing well... there's a solution; the rat traps are set and i am a member of car2go. speaking of car2go, do you have car2go in your town? if they have it, become a member. it's awesome. i saw danny malone play on sunday and ran into many friends and folks that have been on the show like, scarlett olson, joanna barbera, bob schneider and of course, danny malone. great sunday!my guest for episode 218 is third generation texas musician, emily gimble. on friday we'll have her bandmate, warren hood on the show. i saw emily play a few months ago and i was blown away. i asked her to come by and chat with and she did. we talked about everything, traditional music, waco, fiddle camp, the warren hood band, the marshall ford swing band, drinking with hayes carl, the cheesey ray vaughan, paying respect and much, much more. i hope you enjoy getting to know emily as much as i did.ciao! -jg

hello people! i hope this episode finds you well. i am doing well. i'm about to go see sheboygan's record release show. i've been looking forward to that for a long time. if you like our theme song, "needle hits the groove", you should check out their album, triple fantasy, available on itunes and vinyl available at cdbaby.com and waterloo records in austin. i've just been at the t-mobile store dealing with my new phone. it finally came in tonight! i've been off of instagram for five days....my guest for episode 213 is grammy award winning producer, adrian quesada! i met adrian a few months ago when i did the elliot smith tribute show. he was in the house band. i knew he was in grupo fantasma and brownout and the he was producing a lot of my friends, david' garza, suzanna choffel and jazz mills to name a few. anyway, he's a great guy, immensely talented and we hit it off at the elliot tribute, i asked him to come by and be on the show and he did. we talked about grupo fantasma, the echocentric, brownout, playing with prince, prince, producing, growing up skate punk in laredo, golden globe parties, gramyy's and much, much more. i hope you enjoy getting to know adrian quesada. i did.ciao! -jg

hello my friends! i hope this episode finds you alive and kicking! i'm fighting some kind of cold thing... it's been happening every couple of months and i discuss my theories about why on the show. i just got home from a skyrocket show. good show. i met a nice kid. he was funny. i met a cable access guy from the 90's. that was cool. also, i'm thinking about having a birthday party...my guests for episode 208 are the awesome australian band, OXBLVD (pronounced ox blood)! they're in austin doing a residency at the sahara lounge on wednesday nights for a couple of more weeks. they're a great band and really nice people. they came by the apartment and we talked about australia, surfing, american music, teenage cookbooks, inxs, the law, docimentaries and much, much more! i had a great time talking to these guys. i hope you enjoy getting to know my new friends, OXBLVD.ciao! -jg

hello my friends! i hope this podcast finds you enjoying the summer. it's hot in texas. i spent the weekend traveling around texas playing some shows with SKYROCKET!. dallas on thursday, houston on friday and austin on saturday. they were all good shows. i was also on a couple of podcasts. one was austin sessions, that was fun. the other was a "game night" episode of the hodgecast. it's already up. it was really fun. there were 8 people playing a star trek themed mystery game and a lot of booze. hey! speaking of podcasts...

our guest for episode 190 is talented symphonic percussionist/drummer, ian fry. i didn't know ian before this interview, but he came to me through my old friend p. kellach waddle (composer/bass player for the austin symphony) who you might remember from episode 31 of this podcast. anyway, kel has composed some music for symphonic percussion for ian and they'll be performing it this sunday (7/28) at the blackerby violin shop recital hall in austin, tx. ian also plays drums in the amazing band, mrs. glass and many more. so, ian came by and i got to know him. it turns out he's an incredibly smart and interesting person. we talked about growing in southern california, getting into the drums, eastman college, spending every waking moment playing, moving to iowa and not playing, travel, learning the tabla, playing in front of 100, 000 people, moving to austin, mrs. glass, i test his knowledge of casio beats and much, much more. i hope you enjoy getting to know ian fry as much as i did.

hello friends! i hope this podcast finds you happy and enjoying your life. things are good here. i had a nice weekend. i spent some time with my dogs, saw some great comedy and music and i saw the pussy riot documentary. look up pussy riot. seriously. their story is unbelievable. right now, i'm getting ready to go see the movie "a band called death" and see death perform and i'm going to their soundcheck... they have an amazing story. i'm looking forward to this awesome experience.
hey! i want to remind you that if you're in austin, i'll be playing a solo show this thursday, june 27th at 8pm at the saxon pub. come on out. i'll sing you some songs, tell you some stories and entertain you until you're satisfied. do it!
my guest for episode 183 is asleep at the wheel's amazingly talented, elizabeth mcqueen. elizabeth not only plays with asleep at the wheel, she has a solo career, children and is married to her bandmate! i didn't know her when we booked this thing, but through the conversation, i think we became pals! we talk about her upbringing, travels, moving to austin, her solo career, joining asleep at the wheel, touring with her husband and family, our love for maron, older dudes/younger chicks, writing songs, "closet drapers", "the laziest girl in town", her new album and just how she balances all of this stuff and maintains. she's a great hang. hopefully,  we'll be talking to her husband, david sanger soon. i hope you enjoy our conversation. i sure did.
