my guest for episode 40 is my old friend, radio d.j., loris lowe. loris has been a familiar voice to her fans and a champion of local music in austin for over 20 years now. she is the 6-10 pm d.j. on KGSR and host of the over 25 year old show on KLBJ, "local licks". on this episode we discuss loris' early days as a college raddio dj inthe thriving metropolis, odessa, tx to her four-year stint in the ever-so flat,  lubbock, tx and then her move to austin and KLBJ, where she worked her way up from substitute dj to music director to host of "local licks". in this interview we discuss the way that her job has changed since she started and radio's corporate changes.... i had a blast talking to her. so, here's my friend, loris lowe.

my guest for this very special christmas episode is one of my very best friends ever! this has been "johnny's bros. week". i'll be honest, interviewing your closest friends is not as easy as it seems, but it's nice to sit with someone you've been through a lot of shit with and talk. really talk. joseph and i played some shows together and had a great time for a couple of days and played some pretty successful shows. anyway, it was great to have this conversation with joseph. his band, deadbeat darling, has a new album coming coming out in march. the album is beautiful! i hope you enjoy our hungover conversation.
thank you so much for listening to this podcast! ciao! -jg

hi everyone! i've been reaching to folks about being guests on the show. it's really working out. i have gotten a lot of positive responses from folks and so you can look forward to a lot of great shows coming up with all different kinds of people. having said that, i am also thinking about adding some ads... it would help pay for the upkeep and storage space for these large files. what do you think of that? would that bother you?
i have some gigs coming up...
w/ SKYROCKET! - sat. dec. 3rd - hanover's - pflugerville, tx
w/ liars & saints - wed. dec. 7th -hotel vegas - austin, tx
i am honored to have tim palmer as my guest for episode 27. i didn't know tim. i found out that he lived here from his work with blue october and i emailed him on facebook. a "cold call", if you will. i asked if he'd be interested in sitting down and telling me his story and he was very nice and said "yes!". so, we met at "jim's" the breakfast place that my grandparents love. tim told me about how he started out as a guitar player/singer in a punk band then went on to follow his interest in recording and went from "tea boy" to assistant engineer to co-producing kajagoogoo... then going on to work with robert plant, tin machine, pearl jam, u2, ozzy, blue october and even a 2-day stint on the infamous guns & roses album, "chinese democracy"! i had a blast having breakfast and talking to him. i hope we can do it again. i hope you enjoy my conversation with the extremely talented and gracious, tim palmer.
you can find out more about tim palmer at www.timpalmer.com and follow him on twitter @timpalmermixer

thanks to VH1 classics' "that metal show", i have gotten an education over the last couple of years. i knew and liked a lot of the hard rock and metal that was popular when i was in jr. high like, judas priest, ozzy's first two solo albums, some iron maiden, van halen etc... but i never heard bands like saxon, accept, king diamond or anything like that until i was an adult. so, i'm learning. i love what i'm learning. oh! i watched scorsese's documentary about george harrison... brilliant! watch it!
episode 16 features jason mcmaster from, watchtower, dangerous toys, gahdzilla motor company, broken teeth, ignitor, evil united and many, many more.  jason is a metal legend. he's been inducted to the texas music hall of fame and influenced many bands that went on to influence many other bands. he is an extremely creative and driven artist who has stayed true to who he is and that is always commendable. i've had the pleasure of knowing jason for quite a few years. i've always enjoyed talking to him and watching him perform. i was excited to get to sit down and talk to him about growing up in and leaving corpus christi, joining watchtower and dangerous toys and his many other bands, what it means to be a metal fan, his love for making music and how he got here. i hope you enjoy it too ciao! -jg

Episode 13: Dale Dudley

Wednesday Sep 28, 2011

Wednesday Sep 28, 2011

DON'T FORGET! monday, october 3rd, 8pm at momo's in austin, tx is our first live podcast! our guests will be the coveters (suzanna choffel, michael kincaid, dan dyer, brad houser, wayne sutton, warren hood, jeff botta and god knows who else) and admission is FREE!!!!!
it's the end of september and it's still 105 degrees in austin. too hot! on sunday, my girlfriend jessi and i went to  a street festival here called, "the pecan street festival". went to look at stuff, walk around then watch singing sensation, nakia at 6pm. well, we went around 3 and it was just too hot to stay.  by the time we walked around the thing once, we were drenched in sweat, tired of trying to follow the shade and just plain wiped out. nakia was going to be on the show this week, but sadly, we both were unable to sit down yesterday due to complications... it worked out because at the time nakia and i were supposed to be talking, there were four guys using those blowers all around my apt. so, look for the nakia episode in october.
episode 13 features our first non-musician guest. dale dudley is host of the long-lasting, incredibly popular "dudley and bob" morning show on KLBJ fm  in austin. the show has been on for more than 20 years. he also has a podcast called, "the taint and teabag show" i have been a guest on both shows.. i've known dale since the early 90's. i've always liked him we've always had good conversations. this one is no exception. i'd like to thank dale for coming by after he was on the radio for 4 hours. so, here's my friend, dale dudley.
